- Cleansing incoming negative influence
Submitted question covered in this blog: " My ex is casting spells against me... Can you help?" Thank you for submitting this concerning question! The best advice that I can give for situations like this is to cleanse, ground and protect yourself from external negative influences that may be directed towards you. This previous blog entry may help: https://www.askagreywitch.com/post/protections Protecting yourself further. In my personal experience, I find cleansing ritual baths very helpful for this purpose, and can be done before initiating other spellwork, meditation, journaling, etc. Or, especially before skyclad ritual! Afterall, we are most powerful as our natural selves. As long as you resonate and personally connect with the intention of your working, it doesn't really matter how your desire is symbolically implemented. Just as long as the ritual feels successful and is personally satisfying to you... That confidence, mental structure and grounding will empower your free will to not be influenced by your ex's workings against you any longer. This previous blog post explains more about ritual baths: https://www.askagreywitch.com/post/ritual-baths feel free to change and tailor this ritual bath description to your intention to instead removing influences. Here is an example: Spell removal ritual bath: Sprinkle some black salt or dirt in a bathtub as a neutralizer. Place a mirror near the bathtub. Sit in the bath and chant, “Dirt [or salt] that fell, cleanse well, reverse any spell, that may dwell." ... Repeat three times. Light both a pink and white candle. As you do so, place the picture of yourself or a representative sigil, or symbolic object, between them. Hold rose petals as a symbol of peace and love. As you do this, chant, “I release me, myself from this burden” ... Repeat three times. Place the rose petals in the bath water as well. Sit in the spell watching yourself in the mirror while cleansing and washing away the effects of your ex's workings against you. When you feel the bath finished, drain the water and clean the tub of everything. Take any remains of the peddles/dirt/etx. outside and bury them. Place the mirror under a tree and face its reflection away from your house (i.e. away from you) reflecting any other external influences away. Keep the mirror in place into you feel the influences have faded to nothing. After you feel the work is completed and successful, smoke cleanse and clear yourself and your home and recharge or setup new protections to be sure that your ex's every doesn't creep it's way back in again somehow. Here is a provide blog entry in smoke cleansing and black salt: https://www.askagreywitch.com/post/smoke-cleansing-and-black-salt in case helpful. Thank you for visiting AskaGreyWitch.com Please feel free to submit any other question or provide suggestions or feedback. Many blessings✨
- The term, "Warlock"
Submitted question covered in this blog: "Being a male witch, doesn't that make you a Warlock?" Thank you for this question. With the rise of relevance of male witches in modern practices of witchery, there also seems to be an external encouragement to separate the genders within witchcraft. In Wicca, as in nature, gender has a balance. As mentioned in this previous blog entry: https://www.askagreywitch.com/post/hollywood-misconceptions The term "witch" is actually gender neutral and is used by both men and women who identify as a practitioner of witchcraft. Many mistake the term "Warlock" as a male witch term. However it is not and actually originates from Christian beliefs, not Wiccan or witchcraft. Either a man or a women can be a witch. The term "Warlock" was originally used to describe a man or women who betrayed their oath of baptism. Hanse, the meaning of the word warlock to be: "Oath Breaker". This was a term used by Catholics to determine the weakening of ones' bond to their oath of a baptism ritual. It is my understanding that the term originally began to be used in Ireland as a description for either a man or a women who fit the circumstances. However, over time and across other countries, for some reason, the term merged to mainly include men. A Catholic baptism is a first sacrament, meaning the beginning of an initiation process into that particular faith. It is like making a promise to follow that specific religion and that particular belief system and is usually performed on one who is under the age of six. Those who have been baptized and then swear themselves to another religion without first renouncing their Catholic roots, was considered a "Warlock" in the eyes of many from the Catholic church. Now a days this term is used in attempt to be reclaimed by male practitioners from many backgrounds and is becoming more widely used in modern practices. I believe that this is in part due to an attempt to step away from some of the common misconception about witches. Especially misunderstandings that witches can only be old women, and not men. Coming into balance and understanding with your own gender is so important as a practitioner of magick! Understanding both your masculine side as well as your feminine side together, and the traits and aspects that come from each (no matter how you identify yourself) can be extremely empowering! A man's awareness of his femininity does not determine his sexual orientation. And, contrary to common societal belief, also does not make him any less of a man. In fact, I would argue that he is MORE THAN a man than most! Understanding ourselves, our true selves as human beings is the only ways in which we can relate to and connect with the different aspects of our human nature. The same can be said for empowered women who are in touch with their masculinity. Balance is key. There are so many different opinions on this topic and this topic does cause some controversy within online communities. I would like to quickly point out that the above is from my own perspective and may not reflect others' beliefs or practices. Thank you for reading my blog. It is in hopes that this is helpful and is clearly written. If I can clarify anything here, please do not hesitate to ask. Submitted questions are always appreciated. Many blessings.
- Practitioners for hire
Submitted question covered in this blog: " Do you have any advice or suggestions as to what I should look out for when hiring someone? " With the number of magicians for entertainment available in person, or fraudulent practitioners and scammers online these days, I very much appriciated this question!!! Thank you for submitting it. In this blog, I'm not referring to magicians for hire, or those who do "magic" for for stage tricks or entertainment. I'm referring to "magick" done for intented manifestation. If helpful, the difference has been explained in this previous blog entry: https://www.askagreywitch.com/post/magick My perspective of magick. The very first advice that I like to share in this area of exploring magick is always to consider to do your own spellwork for yourself. The more personally satisfying a spell is to the caster, the more powerful, the more likely to manifest. Spells are empowered by intention and that intuition is raised by the associations created within the working. No one knows your own associations better than you. However, were time and knowledge may restraint, witches are sometimes hired for their particular skillsets. It's worth mentioning that most wiccans consider their practice a call to service and therefore would not usually collect fee nor charge compensation for assistance in magick. But, not all witches are Wiccan. There are a few main reasons off the top of my head why a magickal practitioner may be hired (for a fee): Some magickal practitioners offer psychic readings with the use of a divination tool, such as a bone oracle, or a tarot deck, etc. and so, the time and effort that it takes often has a fee. Others may offer to perform spellworkings on behalf of a payer who covers any expenses involved according to the ingredients and time to complete. Or, to perform ritual or lead group through ceremony. Such as a Hand Fasting ceremony, or a Wittan naming, etc. And, perhaps there's more that I'm just not thinking of at the moment. Please feel free to add more ideas in the comments ;) Experience is everything!! In consideration to exploring witches for hire, here are some "red flags" to watch for if seriously considering to hire another witch or magickal practitioner: First, you need to be comfortable with the practitioner for hire, that they seem relateable, trustworthy and knowledgeable in what you're asking them to do for you. It should be considered a red flag if someone avoids answering questions about themselves, who they are, their qualifications, or anything that you'd be interested to know about them beforehand. A good practitioner should be open and honest. Someone who isn't empathetic or caring may not have your best interest at heart. You could say the same as above for someone who is not going to be objective in their workings. You don't want to work with someone who doesn't agree with you, is rude to you, interferes with their own personal opinions, or isn't open and honest about their findings. If there isn't a lot of history available or information about their background, website, testimonials, reviews, etc. then, they may not be as experienced as they may appear. Or, they may not in fact be upfront with who they are... Be sure the practitioner is known for their workings. Another red flag telling you to choose someone else is if wording starts to be used involving "cursed", "hexed", or "jinxed", etc. Unless you yourself originally feel under some negative influence and that's what you're seeking assistance with from the practitioner, there's really no reason to bring it up otherwise. If the practitioner's fee is not upfront, or the payment system seems confusing, or is left open for interpretation, or there seem to be hidden/added fees throughout, or if the workings of sessions seem to be money focused, ...t Do you have other stipulations to consider when/if allowing another to do spellwork on your behalf? Please feel free to share in the comments! Take time to analyze for yourself why exactly you need someone else to do the spell workings for you. Is it because of confidence in your self, or purhaps you're still in a "broom closet" so-to-speak, (more about that is available in this orbits blog entry: https://www.askagreywitch.com/post/out-of-the-broom-closet Out of the broomcloset), or maybe you just feel like you don't have the exact skill or energy to complete it... this previous blog entry in shadow work may study be helpful: https://www.askagreywitch.com/post/think-about-one-thing-that-bothers-you The importance of Shadow Work. Either way, to make the choice to hire another practitioners is yours, and yours to make alone. No one should judging or being critical to you, etc. about that decision. Always follow your instincts, and trust your intuition. It is in hopes that this short blog entry is helpful. If I can elaborate on anything here, or for any other questions, please let me know at AskaGreyWitch.com/contact Blessed be.
- Homemade skin cleanser
Submitted question covered in this blog: "Is there a spell that could help with an Acne problem?" The skin condition of Acne is actually very common. And so, this submitted question is greatly appreciated. It is caused when follicles of hair in the skin become clogged with oils that can lead to a blemish, also known as a pimple or zit, and although usually appears on the face, can exist or break-out anywhere on the body. Many skin conditions can be treated with specially made skin salves which contain plant material that encourages healing and healthy skin. This previous blog entry talks about one kind of salve that may be helpful: https://www.askagreywitch.com/post/creating-a-salve Creating a salve. This skin salve can also be used to treat bug bites, sun burns, and other skin irritations. However, although this salve will help with clearing and tightening of the skin and can make a great skin toner, a stronger cleanser may be required first to remove access oils which can cause the clogging of pores. Pores are little tiny openings in the skin that release oil and sweat from glands under the surface of the skin. Whilst using skin cleaners and cleansers, intention can be implemented to assist with it's purpose, making the experience magickal. Incantations can be applied to enchant the action and the solution. Charge it surrounded with crystals, or on your alter, or under the full moon before it's used. - Make the experience as personally satisfying as possible. A strong skin cleanser that I use, and would recommend, is made by simply mixing 2 cups of water with one teaspoon of sea salt and one teaspoon of apple-cider vinegar. The solution can be contained in a spray bottle or liquid dropper for easy application. However, please be advised you do not want to get any of it in your eyes as it will irritate or cause a burning sensation. The sea salt helps to deep cleanse pores from oils and dead skin that become trapped, and the apple cider vinegar helps relieve the blemishes and removes inflammation. By applying regularly, perhaps in ritual, and focusing on the intention involved can help to make yourself appear younger, turning a very simple mundane action in to a magickal working or glamour spell. More about that is available in this previous blog entry: https://www.askagreywitch.com/post/glamour-magick Glamour magick. It may be surprising to learn by some that sea salt can be used in a variety of simple ways to enhance our health and appearance. It's ability to cleanse, control excessive oil production and simulate circulation in the skin makes it ideal for scalp scrubs for treatment of dandruff, toe nail and finger nail brighteners, teeth whitening agents, other types of body scrubs, as well as skin cleaners, toners, etc. It's worth reiterating: Magical workings do go great hand in hand, or alongside medical practices. However, magick should never be treated as a substitution for medical advice of a doctor or direction of a health practitioner. Always seek the help that you need when you need it. Always follow the advice and suggestions of medical or health practitioners! Thank you for reading my blog, and for visiting my website! Do you have questions you would like to submit? please feel free to do so at www.askagreywitch.com/contact . The more we can break common misconceptions that may exist about witches, Wiccans and other interesting magickal folk, the better!
- Humanist-Wiccan
Submitted question covered in this blog: "Is it a conflict to be a wiccan and a humanist at the same time?" This very open question is welcome and very much appriciated. Thank you to whom submitted it after reading my previous blog entry: https://www.askagreywitch.com/post/secular-wicca Secular Wicca. Being both Wiccan and Humanist may seem like an interesting combination, it is indeed possible without much conflict. Here is my view on both belief structures: Wicca: Wicca emphasizes reverence for nature, the cycles of the seasons, and the worship of various deities. Traditionally, Wiccans are polytheists, meaning they believe in and invoke numerous gods and goddesses. (For me, deities are representations of the aspects of our own human nature. This makes me a secular practitioner.) Wicca places great importance on the natural world, celebrating the changing seasons, moon phases, and the elements (earth, air, fire, water). Wiccans often perform rituals, cast spells, and work with energies of themselves and their surroundings. Humanism: Humanism is a secular worldview that focuses on reason, ethics, and compassion without reliance on supernatural beliefs. Humanists generally are atheists, agnostics, pantheists, or polytheists. The emphasis is on individual exploration and personal beliefs of one's self. Humanism places humans at the center of ethical considerations, emphasizing human rights, social justice, and critical thinking. Unlike traditional religions, humanism does not have an official doctrine. It encourages individuals to find their own spiritual path. In my personal practice, I blended elements of both belief systems. While I very much appreciate Wiccan rituals, symbolism, and reverence for nature I also embracing humanist values. Being both Wiccan and Humanist was a personal choice of my own while I explored practices from both traditions and create a unique spiritual path that resonated with myself. More about my own personal perspective is written here: https://www.askagreywitch.com/humanist-wicca-what-it-means-to-me about what Humanist Wicca means to me. Both Wicca and Humanism each include many diverse perspectives. There are many different kinds of Wiccans, and there are many different kinds of Humanists. It is my beleif that, one day, science will be able to explain intuition, manifestation, and magick. Or even consciousness. My incorporation of humanist principles into my Wiccan practice has even inspired some humanists that I've met. I am accepted as an active and involved member of Humanist Canada. One can certainly explore and integrate aspects of Wicca into many other belief systems, including Humanism. This previous blog entry is a good example: https://www.askagreywitch.com/post/catholic-witches Catholic Witches. However, it’s always essential to follow your own spiritual journey with what resonates with you, yourself while respecting your own beliefs as well as those of all others. It is in hopes that his has been clearly explained. Please do not hesitate to reach out at AskaGreyWitch.com/contact if there are any more questions.
- What kind of religion it really is
Submitted question covered in this blog: "...quit lieing to the world and tell the world what kind of religon you guys really are..." Although this is more of a hate filled rant submission rather than a particular question, I felt it necessary to share here with everyone as example of the misconceptions that continue to exist. These misunderstandings continue to be spread by some people through messages of hate, usually driven by fear. Wicca is a nature based pagan polytheistic belief system that worships nature often personified as feminine and masculine aspects of nature and can be symbolized by archetypal representations, usually in the form of deities. It is a earth-centered religion and is often also referred to as, "The Craft". As outlined as well in these previous blog entries, there are many misconceptions and misunderstandings about witchcraft: https://www.askagreywitch.com/post/hollywood-misconceptions Hollywood Misconceptions. And, https://www.askagreywitch.com/post/misunderstandings-that-continue-to-exist Misunderstandings that continue to exist. Fear is often driven by the unknown, or misunderstanding. It is definately an intense and unpleasant emotion in response to what is perceived or recognized as a threat or danger. Fear causes psychological changes that can produce behavioral reactions such as becoming aggressive, responding with violence, or attempting to escape by fleeing. The four general responses to fear may include Fight, Flight, Freeze, or Fawn. The main sources of fear tend to include (but not exclusive to): Fear of death (at any age) Fear of growing old or becoming frail Fear of ill health (mental or physical) Fear of love loss or relationship hardship Fear of criticism or banishment Fear of poverty or status Some considerations when analyzing personal fears could be: Why is this so upsetting to me? What am I afraid will happen next? What am I afraid that I will lose, miss or be lost? It would appear to me that the individual whom submitted this particular message explains that they may feel lost themselves, or that they are/have been hurt by or attacked by a magickal practitioner of some kind, and that perception has caused fear of being helpless or perhaps anger has compelled them to attack me on my website. I can only speculate. Here is the full submitted message for reference: "witches are witchdoctors and witches are not a innocent religon there a satanic cult that sacrifices people and animals and have zero remorse while they do it quit lieing to the world and tell the world what kind of religon you guys really are my lifes taken over by witches im being attaccked constantly by you f#@$ers witches are evil possessed f#@$ers that are more eviler than 100 serial killers you guys are mass murder criminals trying to cover your ass caklung yourselfs just another religon well you already know where your heading and its in the bible and it aint heaven god hates witchdoctors and it doesnt matter how hard you witches repent to god the evil youve done is permanent and unforgivable to god and will send you witchdoctors to hell for eternity" Let's debunk some of the accusations from the above message: The term 'witchdoctors' actually originally is a type of healer who treats ailments believed to be caused by witchcraft, not the cause of witchcraft itself. Satanic traditions come from traditions aside from Witchcraft and Wicca (there is no devil in the religions that respect witchcraft) Wiccan based witchcraft does not involve animal or human sacrifice of any kind. Most witches live by a strict rule of, "If it harm none, do what ye will". Many witches believe in the "Law of III" which acts as a mora compass to only do good, and that whatever you do in life comes back to you three times fold (good or bad). The Bible is from Catholic religion origins and does not have involvement with Wicca or witchcraft. Although the bible does consist of positive stories involving witchcraft and magick, the practice is generally frowned upon by Catholics alike. A witchcraft spell is considered similar in rite to a catholic prayer. Many catholic traditions where shaped from pagan culture as an attempt to convert people of other nature based religions into the catholic faith. Some witches work with deities rather then an almighty supreme supernatural being that many refer to as 'God'. Many pagans believe in a all grand and mighty spirit however don't give it much attention since it does not interact. An interesting observation that I would like to note is that this individual has visited my AskaGreyWitch.com site and seems to have read at least one or some of the blogs available. I find it interesting that someone who does not agree so strongly with the practice of witchcraft would find themselves exploring a support platform for witches. With many similarities between witchcraft and Catholicism (as also mentioned in this popular previous blog entry, https://www.askagreywitch.com/post/catholic-witches Catholic Witches), it often surprises me the conflicting perspectives and aggressive overtones that manifest from interactions between these groups of people. We are all people; we are all human. Witches are just wise to natural ways of working with nature. I wish this individual well in their own unique journey in life and hope that they find happiness and sound mental health that they so deserve as a fellow human being. Many bright blessings.
- Magickal Cleaning
Submitted question covered in this blog: "I heard spring cleaning should be part of a witch's practice, is that true?" In my opinion, Absolutely! Thank you for submitting this question! To be honest, any symbolic action made magickal can be made part of anyone's personal practice. Afterall, it's all about intention. I can mention about how common spring cleaning is related to witchcraft practices. Thank you so much for inquiring! First off, spring is considered a special time for Wiccans and Witches alike as it is the process of nature awakening again after the winter slumber. It becomes a time for awakenings, new beginnings, and cleansing. Hibernations are ending. After being shut up through the winter to maintain heat and comfort, homes can now be aired out and refreshed. Many witches will tackle this with a good spring cleaning! Some very simple and easy ways in which to cleanse during cleaning magickally is to energetically sweep of a broom, create a lemon/vinegar infusion, and clean with intention of protection and energetic charging, add moon water to your floor wash or window cleaner, mirror cleanser, etc. Some witches like to sprinkle salt or black salt into the corners of their dwelling in order to alleviate negativity and discourage unwanted energies (which can be vacuumed afterwards and then disposed of). The options are endless! During spring time can be an excellent time to do cleansing practices as a refresher to the home removing any energetic stagnance. Whilst, getting in some good spring cleaning. The most common way of cleansing a home is with the smoke from burning bundles of specific herbs in order to disburse negative energies and/or encourage positive energies through out the home. I personally like to do this by moving widdershins (counter clockwise) around my home and in each room with the wafting smoke. This previous blog entry mentioned smoke cleansing, and the also mentions how that is different from smoke smudging: https://www.askagreywitch.com/post/smoke-cleansing-and-black-salt smoke changing and black salt. There are so many other ideas that also come to mind. Such as, but not limited to: sound, like ringing bells, chimes, or clanking pots & pans, etc. which can help to disburse energies allowing a witch to then build upon the desired energetic environment of their home. Or, spraying around blessed moon water in a magickal spritz around the home, (more about working with the moon phases is available at: https://www.askagreywitch.com/post/working-with-the-moon-phases working with the moon phases). Or, the use of a cleansing tool, such as selenite crystal wand, creating a witches ladder, negativity wards, protective talismans, Etc. placed around the home, or on yourself, property, in your vehicle, and otherwise. And, so much more! There are so many ways in which energetic cleansings can be completed depending on your practice, magickal associations, and techniques that feel satisfying to you. As the spring time progresses closer towards the summer season, picking flowers to be placed inside the home is also a cleansing technique amongst some witches. Using the energies of the selected plants to build upon and change the 'feeling' of a room, for example. Popular choices tend to be Lilac, tulips, paperwhites, daisies, hyacinths, and many other spring time bloomers. Planting specific plants bushes and herbs around the home outside can also help to change the energies of the home inside and property surrounding. For example, planting rosemary in a garden near the entrance of the home can be a very protective ward for incoming negative intentions sent your way. There are also many natural plants that grow back every spring (that some refer to as 'weeds'). These can spread into a property to create their own layer of protection around a witches dwelling. More information about protecting yourself is available in this previous blog entry at: https://www.askagreywitch.com/post/protections protecting yourself further. It is in hopes that this is helpful. Please, feel free to submit any questions, or let me know if I can elaborate more on this topic. Comments are always welcome!!! Thank you for visiting my website and for reading my blog!
- The SMC tradition
The submitted question covered in this blog: " What is your coven like? " Thank you for submitting this question as each coven can be different from the next just as each witch can be different from each other. a Coven Based Practitioner is a witch that prefers to work with other witches in their practice and may or may not involve deities, demons, gods or goddesses, etc. This would be someone who get's together with other witches at gatherings and performs magick together as a group. Usually these groups align in their beliefs and traditions working close together in ritual and/or magick. From this previous blog entry, https://www.askagreywitch.com/post/solitary-vs-secular-vs-coven-based My coven is called the Sacred Meadow Circle The Sacred Meadow Circle (SMC) is an international online community of witches that holds weekly virtual gatherings and periodic in-person gatherings in South-Eastern Ontario for self-initiation guidance, ritual, celebration and empowerment. The structure of the coven is divided into three main aspects of membership and participation: The Astral SMC the Full Moon SMC; and the New Moon SMC. All members are equal without any elevated status or power. The focus of the SMC tradition is centered on individual development and is based on Seax-Wicca influences. The New Moon SMC is a coven-stead of Wiccans in which each member can be a founder, Elder or High Priest(ess) of a full moon empowerment group, assists with initiations, and/or acts as an advisor to the other Sacred Meadow Circle High Priestesses and High Priests. It is a requirement that each practitioner individually follows their own traditional structured approach to their own rituals and practices in witchcraft. This in-person group also requires a strong commitment, there are ranks involved and members must undergo an initiatory process which involves three degrees of growth and development in the coven's practices. Each devoting to a Gesith Priesthood of Humanist Wicca which the Sacred Meadow Circle was originally formed, influenced by an Anglo Saxon tradition. The New Moon Sacred Meadow Circle provides teaching and learning opportunities for all of the other members. The Full Moon SMC is an in-person eclectic empowerment gathering of diverse witches whereas no ranks exist and each is equal to teach or learn with no initiation process to join. The only requirement is that each is invited when membership allows. Each must walk at least one path within witchcraft and seeks to connect and support other witches. It is each's individual choice to dedicate to a self initiation on the SMC tradition. Meeting places are kept confidential to the group and vary depending on the time of year, celebration, event and/or festival. Each gathering is lead by a Gesith High Priest(ess) of the New Moon Sacred Meadow Circle. However, all decisions regarding the group's activities and interactions are mutually governed and agreed upon by the Full Moon group's members themselves. High Priest of the Sacred Meadow Circle. Occasionally, the New Moon SMC will also host a virtual gathering referred to as the "Dark Moon SMC Remote Gatherings" that participants are invited to attend. These online meetings are an opportunity for the Full Moon SMC members to teach and share to others something of which they have learned that is a topic of interest for those who are invited to join. Future discussion topics are suggested by the gathering attendees. Only those invited to attend the Dark Moon remote gathering can decide on and be participating in the discussion topics. Guests are usually invited from the virtual Astral SMC gatherings. The Astral SMC is an online international diverse assortment of witches that get in contact and seek support in their discovery and learning of witchcraft. Anyone can participate in this group! There is no requirement other than looking for help or support in setting up a meaningful practice in the craft. AskaGreyWitch.com serves as a support platform for this group by submitting questions, and posting short blog-style responses. By sharing as example, it is in hopes that it inspires or helps others to setup a unique magickal practice for themselves and trust their own way of thinking, individual beliefs, etc. We all need something to motivate us. After all, the more personally satisfying workings feel to a practitioner of magick, the more likely manifestations will materialize into reality. The core principles of the coven emphasize the inherent worth and equal potential of each member, respect for nature, rejection of hierarchical authority, and commitment to personal accountability. Non-members, including family and guests, may be invited to attend gatherings as outside of circle observers. Only members should partake in rituals. There is a focus placed on supporting self-education as individual rights and responsibilities of each member. Self-initiations can be guided or supported by a High Preist(ess). Craft names are welcome. Who the members are as well as gathering locations (including join links to online activities) are kept confidential for the privacy and safety of members and friends of the coven. Since witches and witchcraft face so many misconceptions and misunderstandings in the world today, revealing identities of witches or other coven member information could result in the jeopardization of wellness or safety for others. If you're interested to get involved, please join us for the next Astral SMS virtual gathering by registering at: https://www.askagreywitch.com/registration-astral-chat For more information about the coven, check out: www.askagreywitch.com/coven and for more information about witchcraft, visit: www.askagreywitch.com/sacred-meadow-circle Blessed be.
- Demystifying mediumship
The submitted question covered in this blog: "Do you use angles or guides to do mediumship?" This question is so very much appreciated, thank you to whom submitted it! Because, there are different types of 'psychics', and different kinds of 'mediums' and also different ways to do mediumship. I believe you mean, " angels " ;) Firstly, in no way am I saying that one way (or my way) of practicing mediumship is right, or better than others. Just like witchcraft as a whole, there is no right or wrong way to connect with your intuition or intention. Secondly, a medium is a psychic that helps interpret messages associated with the spirit of past loved ones. More about spirit mediumship in this previous blog entry at: https://www.askagreywitch.com/post/spirit-mediumship Spirit Mediumship For me, in answering this question of using angels or guides, I can answer, "No" and "yes" depending on how I look at it. I can explain... Personally, I do not believe in angels as heavenly beings. So, my answer is "no". In my personal practice I am a secular practitioner. It is a fundamental belief of mine that each and every one of us as human beings have an ability to use our intuition and connect with energies we carry with us. When I practice mediumship I believe that I am connecting with my sitter's energy (that is the best way that I can describe the experience for myself) in an empathic fashion. I look within myself for guidance. Looking within myself to the aspects of my own human nature are my guides. And so, I feel like I can also answer, "Yes". I do allow my instincts to guide me through a reading. Although, I wouldn't describe this as guiding myself. Finding and creating relationship with the different parts of my inner self and what makes me human is my way of working with deities in my Wiccan practices. As an archetypal representations and not as external supernatural beings. In reference to "angels", I would look at this like energy we carry with us of loved ones. Their 'spirit' in the sense of what their presence felt like when with them. We cherish our memories and we remember the presences of the ones that we love. Within my mediumship readings, it is the messages within the sitter that is the most impactful. Within a mediumship reading with me , there is no expectation to share any information beforehand, no need to bring any objects, nor pictures with you, etc. As a sitter of the reading session, we will quickly meet, i will explain what it is that I do. And then, I will take a moment to connect with the energies of my sitter and try to interpret what I receive whilst requesting confirmations through out. Once validated, questions can be asked. Quite often the messages wont make any sense to me. However, make absolute sense to the sitter of my readings. Messages are often what is seemingly needed to be delivered through the associations held of our past loved ones. There are many misconceptions about mediumship and also about those who identify as psychic in general. These misconceptions are unfortunatly commen and often driven by fear generated by movies, fictional novels, and other forms of entertainment. As mentioned in this previous blog entry: https://www.askagreywitch.com/post/hollywood-misconceptions Hollywood misconceptions There are many kinds of ways in which to practice mediumship naturally. Whether through the use of meditation, or aids or tools, such as spirit boards, pendulums, tarot cards, oracles, etc. I can only speak to my own experiences as a professional intuitive reader. For me, mediumship is one of many parts of my practices as a grey witch. More information about my profession is available on the sponsor page. Thank you so much for asking this question. Submitted question covered in this blog: "Can I create a spell to banish something other than a person?" Thank you for this question, which I believe may be referring to this previous blog entry: https://www.askagreywitch.com/post/petition-to-remove-banish Petition to remove/banish. This mentioned blog and video describes and demonstrates a petition working to remove someone from one's life or situation. It can also be comparible to cleaning up the garbage of what remains afterwards when we go through something traumatic. The above mentioned blog and video contains just one example of a simple banishing ritual. This same working could be personally configured for a variety of intentions whether it be removing a specific person from your situation, ending a bad habit or banishing a vice from yourself, etc. The petition used can represent anything and can be represented by any tag such as an image, an affirming word, or a symbol or a sigil, etc. Banishing spells can look like whatever you resonate with most, just like most spells. Which, is why it is often said, "there is no wrong way". The more personally satisfying the working is to the caster, the more likely it will manifest. This previous blog entry also contains another example of a banishing ritual: https://www.askagreywitch.com/post/spell-to-assist-quitting-a-bad-habit Spell to assit quitting a bad habit. You could even intend to banish the weeds from your front lawn! Basically, any spell that is with intention to remove something or someone is a form of banishment. The most simple form of banishment is to pick up a stone, charge the stone with resonating as symbolically representing what you want to let go of, and then throwing the stone, casting it away from you or down stream, etc. Watch the stone leave and disappear just like the resonated association. A very common spiritual phrase that is often used when removing things from ourselves or from our lives, or even from our subconscious, is referred to as "cord cutting". Cords being depicted as connections we hold emotionally, intellectually and/or spiritually to things in our lives or from our past. By visually 'severing' these connections by imagining yourself cutting away the 'cords' that connect you with what it is that you are letting go of, can be a powerful meditation exercise and motivator of intention. The ritual itself can become a rite of passage to move forward without whatever is left behind. However you visualize, or symbolize, or associate with your intention is not the point when creating your own spell. The point is the intention itself that's going into that working. The rituals, tools, supplies, incantations, etc. used in spellwork all help to build on the focus to increase the intention desired. It is intention that powers spellwork. It is in hope that this makes sense. Please reach out if i can clarify or please feel free to submit further questions! Best,
- Humanist Wicca VS Luciferian Wicca
Submitted question covered in the blog: "Since your practice is about self empowerment, why are you not Luciferian?" This is a very interesting question as there are some similarities between these two traditions even though each are very different from each other. Some of the ways in which Luciferian Wicca and Humanist Wicca are similar is that both traditions share some common ground, despite their contrasting ideologies on the divine. They are practitioners witchcraft and incorporating magick into their spiritual beliefs. Individual autonomy and self-empowerment are valued. And, each celebrate nature and often hold reverence for the earth. Both traditions encourage critical thinking and morally doing the right thing. Art of combined traditions Some of the differences between Luciferian Wicca and Humanist Wicca can be found within the core beliefs about the divine, which differ significantly. Luciferian Wiccans may revere Lucifer, a rebellious figure, as a symbol of individualism and pride. This symbolic figure is not related to nor connected with the Christian fallen angel Lucifer, nor the devil, Satan, etc. Lucifer is meant as the first known reference to the morning Star. The name means the light bringer. It was the original name for the planet Venus long ago, before knowing that it was a planet. Humanist Wiccans, on the other hand, are generally non-theistic and focus more on personal growth as a human being and their connection to nature. Luciferian Wicca often draws from Satanism, emphasizing nonconformity and self-interest. Whereas Humanist Wicca aligns more with humanist philosophy, promoting reason, compassion, ethics and supporting others. Luciferian Symbolic Figure Rituals in Luciferian Wicca may focus more on self-empowerment and achieving spiritual goals. Humanist Wiccans on the other hand often celebrate nature-based holidays, may practice meditation or visualization, and focus on connecting with each of the aspects of their own connections with humanity. More about Humanist Wicca can be read in this previous blog post: https://www.askagreywitch.com/post/humanist-wiccan Humanist Wicca. Practicing Humanist Wicca was a personal choice of my own based on preference and how I've always viewed my place in the world long before I considered myself Wiccan. It felt and feels right to me. My Humanist philosophy has shaped my Wiccan practices. That's not to say that it should be right for everyone. Each and every one if us must find what path resonates with ourselves most as individuals. Trust your instincts and follow your intuition. Art with Humanist symbology Thank you to whom submitted this very appreciated question! Please feel free to submit your own questions at: www.askagreywitch.com Blessed be.
- Vengeance or Virtue
Submitted question covered in this blog: "I was verbally bad mouthed on phone to new employer do you see that persons name please?" Thank you so much for this submission. I felt I should be sure that some proper time and consideration has been given so that your question can be addressed appropriately. This question IS greatly appreciated. Many people experience the feeling of being betrayed, usually by someone considered a friend or ally. It usually involves dishonest or disloyal behavior that undermines or harms another person. This can take many forms, such as spreading rumors, gossiping, taking credit for someone else's work, or saying bad and untrue things about someone, etc. it can feel like the term 'backstabbing' which can be very hurtful and damaging to relationships. First off, I'm sorry to hear that someone has "bad mouthed" you as you've described. That must be difficult, or frustrating or perhaps infuriating depending on the situation. This website is setup to help and support others to learn to do witchcraft for themselves. For more information about the intuitive services which I offer, please visit my other website at www.staffordtarot.com . I should mention that it is a fundamental belief of mine that each and everyone one of us as human beings is capable of intuition, divination and other psychic abilities. Giving yourself the time to really process the different aspects involved within your situation is important and can help you to determine who it is that's involved. My recommendation would be to consider the shadow work that may be helpful to you. Considering the motive or intention of the other person. Here are some example questions you may want to consider: Is there anything that you may have done to warrant this action taken? Who would even want to do this? What would be the benefit of such actions? What do you suppose has compelled them to do what they did? Did their actions make them look admirable in the eyes of your employer? Is there some sort of potential promotion, raise or benefit involved for that other person connected to the actions taken? While allowing your intuition to guide you through the shadow work process, you may be able to actually narrow down for yourself the person who is responsible as you consider these or similar questions. Use your mind, follow your heart and listen to your gut. And finally, to also consider what will you do with the name(s) of the other(s) involved? Is your desire to inflict harm in return for a wrong done? Or, are you willing to consider positive moral qualities? forgiveness, compassion? Or perhaps it's about justice? Shadow work can affirm your pure intentions to be sure that you remain true to yourself and no further negative influences can be involved. Here are some previous articles regarding shadow work, in case helpful: https://www.askagreywitch.com/blog/tags/shadow-work Shadow Work blog entries. Another factor to consider - if part of your practice - is the 'Law Of Three'. It is believed by many practitioners (not all) that generally the intention of our actions return to us three times more impactful then originally intended during our lives. While other religions may believe in reward after death, or in rebirth, Wiccan's typically believe we are rewarded while still alive. In other words, someone who is kind, generous, or intending to be helpful would see returned to them kindness, generosity and help from others around them. However, if someone is cruel, malicious, intending to be harmful to others then they would receive cruelty, malice, and experience further harm from others around them. Some practitioners refer this as an effect of the 'Law Of Attraction'. This belief is that what you attracted to yourself energetically from the universe is based mainly on what you energetically put out to the universe. As the suggestive expression goes, " Do unto others the way you want done unto you." This is considered to be a rephrase of what's known as the popular "Golden Rule", to treat others the ways in which you would like to be treated. This is called the Golden Rule because this philosophy exists in almost every religion of the world today. That being said, if this other person was actually acting in bad faith, it may help you to feel better knowing that it will return to them three times fold. What goes around, comes around! Also, protections may help to feel more grounded, focused and empowered: When I was young and learning how to swim, I would be more confident of a beginner swimmer with the use of a learning aid or strategy, such as water-wings or a life jacket. Water wings were air filled looped and sealed pouches that children fit their arms into so that the water-wings sit directly below the shoulders which helps a child to keep their head afloat while learning to swim (see image above). Protections work in a similar way by providing guidance, support and grounding for a witch to stand in their own power more comfortably. More about protections can be read in these other blog entries: https://www.askagreywitch.com/blog/tags/protection I hope that this has been helpful. Thank you for visiting my website, viewing my blog and submitting your question! Blessed be.
- Nudity in the craft
Submitted question covered in this blog: " What is a Skyclad ritual?" Thank you for submitting this question referring to what's mentioned in this previous blog entry: https://www.askagreywitch.com/post/cleansing-negativity about cleansing incoming energy In my personal experience, I find cleansing ritual baths very helpful for this purpose, and can be done before initiating other spellwork, meditation, journaling, etc. Or, especially before skyclad ritual! Afterall, we are most powerful as our natural selves The word Skyclad in neopaganism refers to the practice of ritual nudity during religious ceremonies. A skyclad ritual is a ritual in which is performed while each participant is wearing no clothes, jewelry, nor make up, etc. There is a widely shared belief amongst the magickal community that being as naked as possible connects us with nature as we are closest to our true authentic self. Afterall, that IS how each of us entered the world through child birth. There should be nothing suggestive or sexual about performing a skyclad ritual, even when more than one person is involved. A group of Skyclad ritual magickal practitioners are each intently focused on the intention of the ritual itself that is being performed. In most covens, intimate interactions between members is very much frowned upon and highly discouraged. Even handfasted or married couples attending coven gatherings attend as individual practitioners and should keep any gestures of affection between eachother private and outside of circle gatherings. Skyclad ritual can easily be incorporated into bath times for any individual solitary practitioner. It can be a simple way to cleansing away negatively whilst also cleaning ourselves. There are visual meditation techniques that are meant to assist with this, such as an Astral Shower visualization where a witch visualizes a serene scene in which the water is washing away and cleansing away any negativity from the body while standing under the water in the shower. A witch who is also a parent may perform a skyclad ritual with a baby or enfant as a blessing of good health and strong development. Long ago, catholic baptisms were performed with the person being baptised in the nude and deliberately dunked under the surface of the water by a priest of the faith, to then allow the baptised person to rise from the water anew. Either performed in a bath tub or in a river or stream, or along the shore of a lake. This is another example of skyclad ritual. A coven who has decided to practice Skyclad rituals must have first established a high level of comfort and trust amongst each of it's members first and should be completely voluntary. No one should ever feel pressured or forced to participate in skyclad ritual. Or, any ritual for that matter! That is a huge red-flag that what's happening is not in a safe environment. More information about that is available in this previous blog entry: https://www.askagreywitch.com/post/where-to-start answering a question about covens. Since the topic of nudity can generally cause some discomfort or awkwardness within today's modern society, in the tradition of the Sacred Meadow Circle, my coven specifically only encourages individual skyclad ritual for each member to be done privately in the confort and privacy of their own home. It is never suggested during coven gatherings nor amongst other coven members. More information about the Sacred Meadow Circle is available at: https://www.askagreywitch.com/coven Thank you for viewing my blog! If there are any questions please consider submitting them. I may expand on what I've written in this or an existing blog or I may write a new blog entry depending on the topic of the submission. Bright blessings!
- Synchronicity
Submitted question covered in this blog: Synchronicity "... Mediumship with an animal after death " Thank you so much for submitting this question "On the multiplication of an animal after death." I believe this may be an autocorrected typo and that you're actually meaning about mediumship, not multiplication, given the context of the complete submitted message. Submitted full message for context: "On the multiplication of an animal after death. After death, my cat appears everywhere, on the Internet and in different countries, in a village outside the city. How can I get her home?" From the translation of this message and for the purpose of this blog entry, I'm going to assume that what is meant by "...appears everywhere..." is referring to symbolizing or moments of synchronized messages which remind of the cat. From a spiritual viewpoint, synchronization is often referred to as synchronicity. It's the experience of meaningful coincidences that seem to connect unrelated events. Unlike mere chance, synchronicities are believed to be guided by an inner awareness, or higher power or collective intelligence. Common concepts of synchronization: Synchronicities often occur when an individual is deeply aligned with their higher self or soul purpose. In this case, these events may act as confirmations or guidance. Some believe that the universe is a vast interconnected web, where everything is related. Whereas Synchronicities highlight this interconnectedness. These events are not random but carry specific messages or insights as meaningful coincidence. They often serve as wake-up calls or confirmations of one's path. While many others believe synchronicities are a form of divine guidance, offering support and direction. Is it possible that when your "cat appears everywhere" to you that your subconscious self is reminded of, or trying to tell you something in the moment? Are there confirming details regarding your cat from the details which you've noticed? What specific messages or insights do you feel you may have received during those moments? Did there seem to be any form of support, comfort or guidance during the experience? Journaling about the experience afterwards can be very helpful to retain all the details for later analysis. Examples of spiritual synchronization Recurring numbers: Seeing the same number sequence repeatedly can be seen as a message from the subconscious or spirit or the universe depending on your practice. Meaningful encounters, such as the presence of a spirit, or meeting someone who unexpectedly provides crucial advice or support in the moment. Usually unexpected. Synchronistic dreams: Dreams that align with life events or seem to be visits from spirits, or offer prophetic insights, etc. Your intuition plays a crucial role in recognizing and interpreting the symbolism and messages received through synchronicities. It's about knowing intuitively that something is significant beyond what may appear as mere coincidence. Ultimately, the spiritual perspective of synchronization invites us to view the world as a tapestry of interconnectedness, where every event has meaning and purpose. My personal practice as a Humanist Wiccan emphasises more on the human experience. The focus is on personal growth and understanding within one's existence rather than supernatural intervention. Ultimately, the interpretation of synchronicities is a personal journey. It’s about finding meaning and connection within one's own worldview and life experiences. This experience might come across more as: A meaningful coincidence. When not attributed to divine intervention, they can still hold personal significance. Psychological Patterns. It could be understood as reflections of the individual's subconscious mind or the collective unconscious. Opportunities for Growth. Synchronicities might be viewed as chances to learn and develop. Connections to Nature. Some Humanist Wiccans might see synchronicities as reflections of natural patterns and cycles. Trust your instincts and follow your intuition. Please let me know if there are any more questions about this, or about other witchcraft related topics by submitting a message at www.askagreywitch.com . Thank you for visiting my website and for reading my blog! Many blessings!
- The Law of III
Submitted question covered in this blog : " Can you please elaborate on the law of three? How does this work? " The Law of Three, also known as the Rule of Three or The Law of Return. It suggests that people receive consequence or reward for the deeds they accomplish during their lives while they are still living. As opposed to rewards or consequences received after death, which is commonly thought by many death focused religions. In Wicca however, it often works as a moral compass for magickal practitioners within their workings and spellwork to be sure that the intention of any particular spell does not cause harm to anyone involved. The idea that what ever is sent out returns to the caster much stronger than was sent out, three times fold. And so, a magickal practitioner must consider the morality, value and purity of their intentions. No matter the purpose of a spell, good or bad, the energies can return with a boost! Three times the good returns if good purr intentions are sent out. And, as well this works the same way with negativity. Bad vibes also return three times stronger than what is sent out. In witchcraft this may manifest as a jinks, curse or a hex, which consists of a malicious charm or spell that is intended to cause harm or misfortune to someone. Mentioned in this older previous blog entry: https://www.askagreywitch.com/post/to-hex-or-not-to-hex To Hex, or Not to Hex. As well as in this other more recent previous blog entry: https://www.askagreywitch.com/post/vengeance-or-virtue Vengeance Or Virtue This popular Pagan belief predates Christianity and views of Catholicism receiving reward or punishment after death based on how one lives their life. Pagans generally beleive that synchronistic rewards are receive while still alive, as well as the harsh lessons and consequences to our own actions. This does not mean to say that witches do not wish harm, nor are they push overs, nor should they avoid retaliating if felt necessary. It's about finding the right balance of justification to do such actions. Shadow work can be implemented before and after spellwork to be sure all possible outcomes are considered. More shadow work blog articles at: https://www.askagreywitch.com/blog/tags/shadow-work shadow work blogs category. In comparison, Catholics actually have their own version of what they refer to as a Law of III, also known as the Law of Trinity. This perspective consists of the three forces of any event, an active force, a passive force and a neutral force. Also referred to in that religion as The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit. Wrong doing is considered a strike against you, called a Sin that accumulate until there is a judgement upon thee after death. This is a completely different world view and does not correlate with Wiccan belief or philosophy. It should be mentioned that not all Wiccans and magickal practitioners use the Law of III as a guideline within their personal practice. There are witches whom look at all workings from the perspective of love and light. But, not all! ...To each is own! Thank you for visiting AskaGreyWitch.com and for reading the blog! Please feel free to submit your own new questions or of I can reiterate or expand on anything here, please don't hesitate to ask. Bright blessings✨
- Suspected curse inflictions
Submitted question covered in this blog: "...I definately sense bad vibes... What do I do?" Thank you for submitting this question! Because, many people will often suspect witchery when things seem to be going wrong around them. Here is the full submitted question for context: Everything is going wrong the past few years though I mediate and pray to goddesses as eclectic heathen witch. I definitely sense bad vibes around me . What do I do? Be careful to speculate blame onto others when things seem to be very difficult in life or when things don't seem to be generally going your way. This was the main source of whats known as the witch craze from the 14th to 16th century burning times, also known as the witch trials. More about that at in this recent blog entry: https://www.askagreywitch.com/post/witches-in-danger Witches in danger. In most cases of a negative experience there is no other magickal practitioner involved. Negativities are often held by ourselves and in our own subconscious mind. For example, one is usually their worst critic. We can be influenced to follow our own negative thoughts which can lead to us, ourselves to be the culprits of our own misfortunes. Shadow Work can be an excellent tool in analyzing our own inner thoughts and experiences for the purpose of understanding the energies which we hold onto, positive or negative. This process of self exploration can help to understand the source of negativity in our lives and can even assist us in finding ways of eliminating it by changing our perspective. There are many examples of shadow work written exercises at www.AskaGreyWitch.com/shadowwork and many entries have been written about this within this blog category: https://www.askagreywitch.com/blog/tags/shadow-work It's worth mentioning that most witchcraft is about positive change and improvement in a witches life. in fact, many Wiccan magickal petitioners focus on "Harm none do what ye will" as a general rule to follow within their magickal workings due to the beleif that what ever is sent out returns back to the caster. As mentioned in this previous blog entry: https://www.askagreywitch.com/post/the-law-of-iii The Law of III. If the Law of III (also known as the Rule of III) is part of your practice then you can be sure that any other practitioner who may be working their magick against you will discover that the energies re-balance themselves out and they will automatically experience three times more negativity than they intended, allowing them to get what they deserve. Even in terms of nature, there is joy and substance and living, and there is also pain and suffering and death. As the expression goes, Life happens. How we respond to the events of our lives that seem negative can cause personal development, build inner strength and set determination to better ourselves. In this way, a negative experiences can actually bring positive change. However, in times when you may "sense bad vibes" as mentioned in the submitted question, or the rate times that you may suspect negative energies are intentionally sent in your direction, there is something that you can do to avoid being influenced by it. Cleanse and set protections. This has been mentioned a few times on this website. However, I feel important to reiterate. These previous blog entries and short video may be more helpful: https://www.askagreywitch.com/post/smoke-cleansing-and-black-salt about smoke cleansings. And: https://www.askagreywitch.com/post/cleansing-negativity about cleansing negativity. As also mentioned in this other previous blog entry: https://www.askagreywitch.com/post/protections about Protecting Yourself Further, setting up protections as a ritual can help to feel more confident which in turn empowers our free will. When one's free will is empowered, one can stand their own ground, feel secure and strong themselves, eliminating the possibility of any external influences to have any effect. How do you view yourself? What makes you to feel more confident in yourself? Thank you for exploring the blog entries and for visiting my website. It is in hopes helpful. Questions are always welcome at AskaGreyWitch.com Wishing you well on your journey. Bright blessings,
- The power of Witchcraft
The submitted question covered in this blog: "What is the power of witchcraft? and how can this be achieved?" Thank you for this question. It is very much appreciated as there are many misconceptions around the source of power within witchcraft related traditions. As mentioned in this previous blog entry: https://www.askagreywitch.com/post/how-i-became-a-witch about How I became a witch, many believe that witchcraft is powered by some external force often mis-conceptualized as the devil or some evil entity. When, in fact, it's the opposite. My impression is that Witchcraft is powered by ourselves, an internal force that is within the witch. And, is actually within everyone, even non witches! As mentioned in this popular previous blog entry: https://www.askagreywitch.com/post/catholic-witches about Catholic Witches, many non witchcraft related traditions are very similar, if not the same, as to many pagan and Wiccan rituals and traditions. It should be mentioned that witchcraft is a diverse and very personal practice with many interpretations. the source of power is often a matter of personal belief and experience. There are many witches that believe they are influenced by the energies of the natural world such as the moon, sun, elements and plants. Some witches believe they are influenced by the energies of their ancestors, spirits or deities. Where as in my belief and perspective is that a witch's power comes from their own inner strength, focus, and determination. Many witches also believe in a combination of these sources. In my opinion, the power of witchcraft is pure intention. What we truly intend for ourselves and in our lives is often the focus in most spell workings. Even in terms of the spell work in itself, sometimes done as repetitive ritual, can empower the intention within the spell caster. This mindset, often subconscious, can assist us in achieving our goals and desires. For example. associations and symbolisms to the spell's goal begin to stand out in the mind of the spell caster leading to opportunities which on the conscious level appear to present themselves. The more satisfying the workings of the spell, the more likely manifestation. The more confident in achieving the outcome to the spell's goal the more likely one will notice and take advantage of the opportunities around them leading to that success. This is true across all witchcraft traditions and practices. As a secular witch, myself, in conversation with other witches of more traditional Wiccan paths, I am very much able to discuss magick on a common ground even though our perspectives are very different from each other's. Even though we all may look at witchcraft differently, the experience and success is achieved in very similar ways. That, for me, is confirmation that everyone and anyone can do it. I would go further to suggest that many people actually do it naturally without even realising it! This previous blog entry: https://www.askagreywitch.com/post/workings-vs-spells workings vs spells, may be helpful in providing more examples and explanation of intention setting. This topic is related to a previous blog entry: https://www.askagreywitch.com/post/is-the-spell-even-working titled, "Is the spell even working?" may also be helpful. Thank you for visiting AskaGreyWitch.com and for reading my blog! Please don't hesitate to submit your own questions. Blessed be.
- Book recommendations
Submitted question covered in this blog: "Can you give any book recommendations?" Thank you. This question is appreciated. However, There are sooo many books out there by a vast amount of authors who cover a large variety of topics regarding witchcraft and the different branches of Wicca. It's really the topics that interest you that should be guiding you in what to read. The availability of books today is amazing. Whether found in a physical form in a book store, or downloaded digitally to be read from a computer or iphone, etc. or even read to you! The amount of options can become a bit overwhelming. Me myself, I've read a few books that I felt are worth recommending to read if you are getting started to understand the ways of the craft and learning what defines the witch in you. These books made a lasting impression on me and helped me feel confident that I was on the right track in my practice. It should be mentioned that the book recommendations below are from my own perspectives as a grey witch and may not reflect how you practice witchcraft yourself. Each and every witch is different and should follow what resonates with them personally. It is in hopes that by sharing some of the books that I have enjoyed, that it will inspire you to find other books on the topics of witchcraft or Wicca that interest you. Book recommendations Of course, I couldn't not start without mentioning Gerald Gardner and his non-fiction book called, "The Meaning of Witchcraft". Gerald Gardner, known to many in the modern sense as the "Father of Wicca", based the book around his experiences with the religion of Wicca and the New Forest Coven. Adapted from Gardnerian traditions, Seax Wicca traditions are explained in Raymond Buckland's Book called, "The Tree", which was later republished as "Buckland's Book of Saxon Witchcraft". Raymond Buckland's writings made a huge impression on me while I was still considering myself Wiccan and exploring the differences within the religion. Buckland allowed me to learn that I myself, the witch that I am, is acceptable, has a place in Wicca and has a right to devote to the Wiccan religion. It was the Anglo Saxon perspectives and traditions that invited me to re-start my initiation from Gardnerian Wiccan to Seax Wicca in 2016 and followed through to completion in 2019. Also, Alaric Albertsson makes the magickal wisdom of the Anglo Saxons relatable to today's practitioners accessible from his handbook of Saxon sorcery and magic: With elaborate details of runes, charms, brews and portions, and modules of magick and spell casting from the perspectives of Saxon sorcery. Exploring the practices and customs hidden in English folk traditions the book above shares techniques for making wands and staffs, concecrated and using a seax, wortcunning, soothsaying, and more! As a grey witch I thoroughly enjoyed and related with "Of Blood and Bones, Working with shadow magick and the dark moon", by Kate Freuler. This book spoke so closely to my own personal experience with some of the workings that I have done over the many years of my persona practice. Some workings are not for the faint hearted. Freuler does a wonderful job describing some of the grey areas of magick. Speaking of 'grey' areas of magick, "The Grey Witch's Grimoire" by Amythyst Raine did not disappoint. In this book, Raine shares her perspectives by describing some of the many different aspects of grey witchery and the viewpoint of balance and control that is involved. Also known as Neutral Magick, it involves all kinds of energies in order to "tip the scales" in the direction of the desired manifestation. A terrific metaphysical guide to manifestation by Matt Auryn, including meditation and magick. is the book "Psychic Witch": Filled with meditative exercises and psychic activities to help strengthen psychic ability, Auryn really dives deep into aspects of grounding, healing and manifestation completely from an astral perspective. -- It is my belief that all of the books above would be instrumental in understanding and empowering both the shown and the shadow. Have you already read any of the above books? What was your opinion? Do you have a book that you would recommend? Please feel free to share your thoughts. Wishing you well and safe journey on your path in setting up your own magickal and personal practice in Witchcraft. Please feel free to submit any questions that you may have at AskaGreyWitch.com and I will share my own perspective in hopes that it helps you to find your own. Blessed be. Update : l also mention a few more books that also go in depth about magickal workings and spells, and a pagan lifestyle, etc. in this more recent blog entry: https://www.askagreywitch.com/post/other-book-suggestions Other Book Suggestions
- Petition to remove/banish
Submitted question covered in this blog/video: "How would you banish someone from your life?" Thank you for submitting this question. There are many other ways in which to banish someone or have someone removed from your life. Such as but not limited to: with a binding, use of a poppet, elemental banishing, a vinegar spell, etc. However, the petition method described below (and in the video) has worked well for me in the past and so, i thought I'd share it here. One way that i have banished someone from my life is with the use of a petition spell with intention. For this spell you will need a piece of paper, a pen, and a fireproof container or a cast iron cauldron. Start by writing the person's name on the paper. You can also include birthdate, or any other identifying information. While writing imagine the end result of the spell, that this person has been removed from your life. Turn the paper counter clockwise (widdershins) which is the direction to use to remove or banish them. Write your intention over top of the existing writing which should now appear sideways. Be specific in your desire. Then turn the paper again counter clockwise (widdershins), this direction is used for removal. Write the timeframe of your desire. Be specific. You can write a specific date or a general timeframe. Etc. Turn the paper one last time counter clockwise and sign it with your signature, or use your magickal name. Continue to imagine the end results of the shower throughout. Say goodbye to the person being banished. Now with the paper infront of you, folks it closed away from you. Visualize the person leaving your life. Turn country clockwise and fold again away from you. Visualize the person going away from you whilst. Turn it once more counter clockwise and fold it away from you one last time. Say goodbye. It is now your petition. It can be placed in a spell jar, a sachet, or included in further spellworkings. Personally, i like to burn it in my cauldron to release the energy to the universe to manifest. Be careful around fire. The petition could be burned atop a candle and then placed in a fireproof container or cauldron to burn. While the petition burns, continue to say goodbye to the person to be removed from your life. Visualize them leaving within the timeframe specified in the petition . Focus on them no longer in your life. Feel the relief of them gone. Continue to say goodbye as the petition burns completely. This would be a good time to say a personalized incantation. Speak your desires from the heart. Trust your intuition. As the petition burns away, the energy is released. Sometimes spells can manifest in different ways. The person my simply stop calling, or stop contacting or they may find another job, or they may move away, etc. This spell is not intended to cause harm. Only to influence the person described in the petition to leave you alone. If need be it can be repeated until the influences are strong enough for the person to follow through and go away. When the petition is burned completely, the spell is done. The remnants of the ash can be buried or discarded outside. That's basically it! Please feel free to change this spell as you see fit to suite your own intentions. Afterall, the more personally satisfying a spell is when it is cast, the more likely that it will manifest. -- Image taken of removing obstacles spell during a transition. - Where to start!?
Submitted question covered in this blog: "I don't know where to actually begin, do you suggest a coven?" Thank you for this question. It is very much appriciated as this is a common question amongst beginners. Witchcraft can definately be overwhelming at first with the amount of different it misleading information that is available in books and online these days. It would be my suggestion to start on your own FIRST. When you feel you have setup a comfortable practice for yourself, THEN try to reach out to a possible Coven. Reason being, you'll want to find a Coven that your comfortable working with, as well as compliments your interests in the craft. As also mentioned at https://www.askagreywitch.com/witchcraft It's important to mention from the start that each and every witch's practice looks different from the next. Every witch started with a small topic and then expanded their knowledge over time with experience. It would be my suggestion to start by determining what your biggest interest is, or your greatest strength (that you feel you have) in the craft, and then begin researching and learning about just that specifically. So, for example, say if one feels drawn to a particular type of plant. Work with that one plant, researching it's properties and creating associations to the flowers, leaves, stems, and roots. What is learned along the way may teach about other similar types of plants. Then, suddenly there is all the knowledge that can be applied to many different types of plants and learning the differences between them. Eventually learning medicinal values and herbal benifits, properties, etc. The regular actions of their craft become a regular practice unique to their study. At that point a witch may identify themselves as a green witch. Or for example, say someone who loves to cook and bake starts to implement magick or ritual into the foods and drinks that are made. Perhaps shared to take advantage of the health benifits of ingredients or for magickal value. Setting up regular brewings and creations as part of a practice, this person may eventually see themselves as a kitchen witch as their practice grows. Or another example, say if someone feels fascinated with spirits, experiences or interested in communication beyond the veil of life and death, not afraid of a spirit board (also known as a ouija board), one may relate as a hedge witch setting up a practice of boundaries while able if offer assistance to help others heal from loss. ...etc. There are also witches that work in multiple different areas of the craft at the same time collecting knowledge from many reasons of magick and only using what they feel is suitable to them in their craft. Some call themselves Eclectic witches. It should also be mentioned that not all witches setup a practice with rituals, customs and traditions. It's really about what feels right to you. When you have discovered what works for you, (what makes you happy) you will be much more informed to make a decision regarding a Coven. Many covens follow a Wiccan structure, many involve prerequisites, many involve an initiation process, many no not involve skyclad meetings, many do not do any of the mentioned above... Each group can be different. It is very important to learn about the coven first to be sure it sounds good for you (or safe) to join. FYI: Not all witches are Wiccan. However, most Wiccans are witches 😉 It is actually very true that there are just as many types of witches as there are witches. The most important thing when getting started in witchcraft is that you feel personally connected and satisfied with whatever practice you setup for yourself. After all, the more personally satisfying spellworkings are to the caster, the more likely the magick will manifest. Be sure to enjoy what it is whatever that you're learning and don't feel under any pressure to do it any certain ways that doesn't fit with you, or don't feel you need to expand into areas that your not familiar with or not comfortable going. Witchcraft is an expression of spirituality that involves magick. There is no wrong way to express spirituality. What most interests you about witchcraft? ... Start there. Guaranteed you'll branch out to be learnings and before you know it you've discovered your own path. Please feel free to reach out if you have questions about witchcraft or about Wicca. I'm always happy to answer any questions and share with whom it may be helpful too for others. Be safe, Take good care, and blessed be.
- Shadow work expanded on further
Submitted question covered in this blog: " What is Shadow Work in more detail? " Thank you for referencing the previous blog entry https://www.askagreywitch.com/post/shadow-work-in-my-opinion and for submitting this question in relation to it. My friend, Aurora Moon also commented on shadow work in this other previous blog/video interview with her posted at https://www.askagreywitch.com/post/meet-a-friend-aurora-moon where as mentioned, Shadow work can be messy. It seems it may be helpful to expand further on this subject. According to the dictionary, the definition of shadow work is: " Any process to become conscious of a shadow aspect of one's subconscious. " According to Wikipedia, the definition of shadow work is: " In analytical psychology, the shadow is an unconscious aspect of the personality that does not correspond with the ego ideal, leading the ego to resist and project the shadow. In short, the shadow is the self's emotional blind spot, projected; e.g., trickster. " Carl Jung was a famous psychiatrist and psychoanalyst who founded analytical psychology. Jung's work has been influential in the fields of psychiatry, anthropology, archaeology, literature, philosophy, psychology, and religious studies. Jung stated the shadow to be the unknown dark side of the personality. According to him, the shadow, in being instinctive and irrational, is prone to psychological projection. This is when one projects a moral deficiency on someone else due to recognizing their own personal inferiority within themselves. Not addressing the subconscious shadow self can lead to some archaic and undesirable thoughts and behaviours rising to the surface of our well being: Can create an inflated ego. Begin to self savotage or self harm. Start self-loathing or have low self esteme. Self deceit and deceiving others. Have anxiety and/or depression. Become self absorption or conceitedness. Struggle to have healthy relationships. Displaying offensive behaviour towards others unnecessarily. There are different techniques of shadow work other than the popular writing or journaling techniques that are more commonly used. Here are some examples of the different ways in which shadow work can be implemented: Journaling or writing a diary I feel it important to start the list with the most popular and commonly used techniques for shadow work. Described as written exercises, shadow work journaling challenges or brings to light our subconscious tramas and traits that are hidden from an external view and even hidden from ourselves. Shadow work Meditation Meditations, including some guided meditations have been designed to analyse and sort inner subconscious thoughts and tramas for the purpose of inner enlightenment. Use of Affirmations Knowing ones inner self well is really the goal in most shadow work activities. Affirmations help to confirm and be more confident with ourselves, inside and out. Partake in inner dialog with self Discussing and analysing our own thought patterns and relating with how situations have made us feel, or reacted, or how something was received, etc. The 3-2-1 process of shadow work The 3-2-1 Process is a procedure of acceptance which involves addressing the parts of the shadow self first in the 3rd person (facing it), then in the 2nd person (talking to it) and finally in the 1st person (being it). Re-evaluate conscious goodness Conscious goodness is the sense or consciousness of the moral goodness or blameworthiness of one's own conduct, intentions, or character together with a feeling of obligation to do right or be good from deep within the subconscious. Counseling or Therapy There is professional assistance available such a counselor or therapist that can help to be extremely effective with the use of different shapdow work techniques to analyse thoughts and emotions of the sub conscious. High Magick With the focus on soul evolution and self empowerment, high magick can also be implemented as a form of shadow work within ritual and ceremonial rites. Some benifits from doing shadow work are: Gain more confidence and self-esteem. Improve your creativity. Build better relationships with others. Practice self-acceptance. Discover your hidden talents. Improve your overall wellness. Increase your compassion toward others. Have better clarity. Shadow work helps to reduce undesirable projections onto others when interacting with them. When comfortable with ourselves, we're less likely to be triggered by other people's personality quirks and traits. This can also help you feel more compassionate toward others. You no longer see the undesirable side of yourself reflected in other people. For example of more shadow work exercises, please feel free to visit: https://www.askagreywitch.com/shadowwork It is in hopes that this blog entry provided some more clarity on the immense topic of shadow work. - Personal Alters
Submitted question covered in this blog: " Can you please share your alter setup ?" Thank you for your interest and submitting this question. I can appriciate wanting to see an example if an other alter when first setting up an alter of your own. It should be mentioned that each and every alter can be different than the next and still be just as prominent in someone's practices. What works for me may not be what will work for you, and vice versa. So, really follow your instincts and use your intuition when setting up your personal alters or working spaces. That being said, i can share with you about my own personal alters that I have currently setup around my home in hopes that it inspires. There is no one way to setup an alter, and so I'm not trying to say that you should do what I do. Each and every one of us needs to discover their own ways in which to respect, honour and offer our intentions. I, myself have always had multiple alters setup at one time. Outdoors, I regularly will setup temporary work spaces within a created circle to be used for the duration of ritual or ceremony amongst nature or within a sacred space outside. Here is an example mentioned in this previous blog entry called opening closing a circle: https://www.askagreywitch.com/post/opening-closing-a-circle My indoor alters tend to remain more consistent and stay setup for seasons at a time. I do change them throughout over periods of time depending what/who I am honoring or working with. And then, i have always had a main working alter. My main alter would be my crafting alter (when I'm not doing magick in my kitchen). Workings/crafting alter: Keeping selected supplies within arm's reach of my main alter, this is where I'll create spells and do rituals in a variety of ways. Personally, I like to use multiple layers of surfaces for this alter. Crafting and working supplies on the bottom level and energetic charging and divination on the higher section. When my black mirror is uncovered, I can perfectly see myself in its reflection while standing infront of this work space. Divination alter: For when ready for divination, meditation and scribing, I'll visit my divination alter where I keep some of my tarot cards, my reading board, some musical and toning instruments, and my series of books of shadows. Ancestors' alter This century old plaster-cast fireplace is often used as an ancestral alter and place for me to connect with spirits. Infront of is usually a comfortable chair and large table where I like to place my crystal ball and do mediumship readings. The fireplace also has it's own connections with spirits itself. Ancestor honor alters: There are also spaces around my home designated to the honoring of specific ancestors individually where their belongings and items of remembrance are placed in memory of. These sources are often visited to reflect on and connect with the passed loved one. Each alter is setup to reflect the ancestor's beliefs, traditions, hobbies and interests, etc. Even if my ancestor's religion wasn't the same as my own, i still honour them in a way that they themselves would appriciate. I myself being Wiccan would not setup a pagan based alter for my ancestors who had Catholic origins of upbringing in their own lives. Memories alter: Where memorial items are kept safe, this very old cabinet is used as a memory alter where my spouse and I will often revisit it's mixed contents with a wide range of different memorable objects and items from both our lives from our pasts. Some may not view all of the above as legitimate alters. However, in my view an alter can be any platform used for the presentation of memories, offerings and other ritualistic purposes. It is in hopes that by sharing pictures of my personal alters that it helps you to find ways in which to setup your own that resonates with your ways in the craft. Please consider submitting any questions that you may have to AskaGreyWitch.com Have a blessed day.
