- Under-representation of male witches
Submitted question covered in this blog: " Is witchcraft an under-represented subculture?" In my opinion, yes. Even though witchcraft is becoming more understood by so many, shared lots online and with Wicca a fast growing religion. It is very under-represented and very misunderstood because of it. However, even though many covens and independent practitioners practice in secret, there is an even more of a massive under-representation amongst witches... Males. I see this online and in other media even though we're everywhere. Male witches exist! And yet, witchcraft is still viewed as a female dominating subject. Due to this, many male witches don't make themselves known as witches, or don't identify as witches even though they are in fact doing witchcraft, or identify differently, such as Warlocks, Wizards, or Magicians, etc. As you may already know, witches in general still face stereotyping and discrimination basically from just being who we are. Canadians have a reputation of being overly polite, honest, and respectful. etc. And so, this can be so highly misunderstood as a Canadian Grey Witch myself. This is an under-represented type of witch that many don't talk about. Those who find balance by learning to work with energies of all kinds. Both positive and negative, both light and dark, healings and curses, etc. We work in the "grey" areas, so to speak. ... Hense identifying as "grey" witches. This does not mean, however, that grey witches are 'bad', or 'evil', eh? As some sometimes suggest. I believe this stereotyping is the main reason the grey witch is under represented. Out of not wanting to be stereotyped as the typical evil witches of Hollywood. More information about the Homewood stereotypes forced in witches can be found in a previous blog entry: https://www.askagreywitch.com/post/hollywood-misconceptions Grey witches are under-represented because they face alot of criticism, stereotyping, and are actually excellent at assisting others (witches or non witches) with challenging situations, by knowing how to manifest to nutralize energies. For example, creating a positive outcome from a very negative situation. Or, another example as bringing down or toning down another's infatuation. Etc. It's an energetic turn of the table, so to speak. As someone who has eventually made a living from within my own witchcraft practices, living in Guelph Ontario Canada, i have faced many stereotypes from the community, local and abroad (online) projected onto me. Where I draw this attention is partly due to the fact that I operate and like to spread the word of two websites: To help break common stereotypes about witches, i created this site www.askagreywitch.com where I answer questions asked to be directly, either from my website or from online social communities. Helping to provide for my family living, i also created another site www.staffordtarot.com where I teach and do workings, castings and multiple forms of readings, including a variety of tarot for a fee. By simply advertising my tarot business, I have been heckled, or recieved attempts to insult, etc. by some who have come across one of my online offers and just did not agree with what I'm doing or how I identify myself. There has even been one person whom I've never even met tried to tell me tarot readings in general were a scam... absolutely not!!! I have several 5 star testimonial postings listed at: https://g.co/kgs/Azyp3Q I believe that the above happens due to the lack of learning and misunderstanding because of under representation in the community and beyond. There ARE pockets of those who do understand in the general public. Some of those who are accepting, or find and read my blog, or give positive feedback or consideration or book my services. I'm very grateful and feel blessed to be able to share that part of myself and my spirituality to help others in such an impactful way. Thank you so much for this question. And, for reading my blog allowing me to share my perspective. If there are any other questions or would like to share your own opinions with me, please feel free to submit them at www.AskaGreyWitch.com
- Workings vs Spells
Submitted question covered in this blog: " Why do you call spells "workings"? Thank you for reading through my blog, and for submitting this question from the website. As pointed out with this question's submission, through out this website, I do say quite a few times that spells are magickal workings. Below is what I mean by this: From my own perspective, the term "workings" is like an umbrella term that can involve anything that is done leading up to a ritual or spell, as well as the symbolic actions during. Another way to describe it, is that it means any 'work' done towards a spell, or to achieve an intended goal or outcome. So, a magickal working, also known as "spellwork" are the workings which are done in the moment of a spell casting to represent the intention involved to acheive the desired outcome of that particular spell. Whereas, the term "spell", for me describes the process of focus for that manifestation. It's like a description of the symbolic focus used to bring an intention into reality. For example: https://www.askagreywitch.com/post/making-a-love-potion In this previous blog about making a love potion, it gives examples of the workings involved in one way that I have used to create a love potion. Another example of a working in preparation for spellwork would include this other previous blog about making black salt, or cleansing items beforehand: https://www.askagreywitch.com/post/smoke-cleansing-and-black-salt as well as other blogs from the "Spells & Magick" and "Workings" categories of the blog. What these blogs mentioned above do not provide, are the actual spell components, such as ritual involved, specific incantations to use, or other symbolic gestures representing the seperate desires involved. This is because intention and desire need to be specific, and no one knows your own specific intention and desires than yourself. This is way it is ultimately up to each witch to find their own ways from their unique practices in which to express themselves in their magick. Since true intention powers spellwork, it is not up to me to tell others what their intention should look like, how to symbolize representation of someone else's intentions. What i can do, and do in my blogs is provide a starting point for others to create their own unique ways of working in the craft. The practices of each witch are unique and personal. The workings of each witch may look very different from eachother. And yet, have similar desired outcomes. These differences can also balance beautifully working together to form a collaborative approach to magick, such as within covens. Given how personal our own self expressions and desires can be as individual practitioners of magick, and the vulnerabilities that can be involved, it is no wonder most covens feel a need to continuously operate with such discretion and secrecy. Or for that matter, why solitary practitioners remain keeping to themselves. Thank you, again, for reading my blog. If you have questions along your own journey, about setting up a unique practice for yourself, or just discovering your own sense of magick, please don't hesitate to reach out for support. Merry part and many blessings.
- Becareful what you wish for
Submitted question covered in this blog: " Have you ever regretted casting a spell? " This is a very curious question, and an interesting one. Thank you for this submission and being upfront in your question. Personally, I can honestly answer, "No, I do not hold regret in my magick". This is widely due to the fact that before casting any spell, I've already done my shadow work around doing it, as well as listened to my intuition and followed my instincts through out. The main purpose of this process that I use for my own spell creations helps me to ensure the spell is being done for the right reasons and will not be regrettable afterwards. Shadow work is excellent for planning and thinking through all of the components and reprocautions that may be involved with any particular working. More information about shadow work is available in previous blog entries: https://www.askagreywitch.com/post/shadow-work-in-my-opinion Shadow work in my opinion and https://www.askagreywitch.com/post/shadow-work-expanded Shadow work expanded in further Researching knowledge beforehand can lead to unexpected experiences gained in order to obtain the knowledge being sought out. This can be done before and after the spell, and has been instrumental in my considerations involving the Law of Three. Basically, the Law of Three is the belief that what ever energies are sent out, come back to the sender three times fold. In other words, send out positivity and get lots of positivity back. However, if sending out negativity, understand that lots of negativity may be headed your way! Considering all aspects of a spell and the possible consequences are important to me to feel confident and have no regrets. There is alot of energy spent that goes into spellwork, and so, the big question that I'm sure to answer with this line of thought mentioned above is, ' is it worth doing in the first place ?', or ' could it rather be achieved in the mundane instead?' Some things to consider for spells that seem to backfire or for unexpected outcomes: Do your shadow work!!! Often the journey is the lesson itself. Not all spells are for the faint at heart. Expect the unexpected. Not all paths are simple to walk. Not all lessons are easy to learn. Trust your instincts, and follow your intuition. Listen to your guides for direction. Blessed be. Thank you for visiting my website and for reading my blog at AskaGreyWitch.com Please feel free to submit your own questions for a chance for the answer to be featured in a new blog entry. It may help to break some of the misconceptions that exist out there about witches, witchcraft or Wiccans and Wicca. - Take good care always!
- Spirit Mediumship
Submitted question covered in this blog: " Do you believe in and work with spirits?" As mentioned in previous blog entries, i beleive in energy, and yes - I do work with the carried energy of past loved ones in a variety of ways in my practice, including assistance with manifestation, looking for guidance, requesting synchronoustic signs, or receiving messages connected to a sitter of my readings. It is my honest belief that anyone and everyone can communicate and work with the connections within. First of all, I've always honoured and paid offering to ancesters and do have several ancestral alters around my home for me to connect with, visit or seek guidance from. As shown in: https://www.askagreywitch.com/post/personal-alters about some of my personal alters. There are times in my practice that, as a psychic medium, I often feel like someone's energy explores me out. I can be on my way of a typical day and when I have dropped my guard a presence has come to me with a message that i usually don't understand. But, I feel that I must remember. In the moment I often feel an urge to write the message down in hopes of remembering it to eventually delivering it. For example: a specific version of a lyric or song. Either later that day or in following days I will be approached by someone that I can tell the message is for them, or, I mention the song for example. The message is always understood and very relevant to a passed loved one of the person the message is delivered to. For example: they thought of that passed loved one the last time THAT song was recently played on the radio. There have been a variety of examples, messages, directional guidance, moments of hope or faith created, and closure that I've had the privilege to deliver to the living. Mediumship has always been something that I have ablidged to do upon request within tarot readings while I have attend in person events or festivals and during private reading sessions. I even offer special tarot spreads using mediumship to request to assist me in the ordering of the cards and using the messages of the tarot to deliver general messages. Professionally, I have sometimes felt approached by a energetic presence first and then afterwards a new client will request to book a mediumship reading. Other times, it's not until I've met my client that I'm able to sense and connect with the energies carried around them. During a mediumship reading session with me, there is no expectation to share any information beforehand, no need to bring any objects, nor pictures with you, etc. We will simply meet, i will explain what it is that I do, and then I will take a moment to connect with the energies around you. Whilst requesting confirmations through out, I will interpret the messages that come through. Once validated, questions can be asked. Quite often the messages wont make sense to me. However, make absolute sense to the sitter of my readings. Messages often seem to be what is needed to be delivered by the spirit themselves. Although I'm usually open to receiving messages commonly, in my personal life, I've also had to create boundaries for myself. By doing so, I no longer feel ambushed by the energetic intersections from others, nor overwhelmed by the messages and emotions involved, nor distracted by the interactions away from my own life's responsibilities. This previous blog entry includes a video of when I was invited to be a guest on The Intuitive Experience channel: https://www.askagreywitch.com/post/guest-on-the-intuitive-experience-online-live-chat where Melissa T. Downard from True Beings of Light and myself get into conversation about mediumship. Since taking the mediumship program at truebeingsoflight.com I have been able to build on my ability to receive specific messages, be more confident with what I'm sensing and also create better spiritual boundaries for myself. When I became confident and grounded in what I've already been doing with mediumship, I then decided to expand mediumship into its own category of service on my professional website www.staffordtarot.com which also provides more information about mediumship readings. Thank you for reading my blog and submitting questions to AskaGreyWitch.com if you have further questions or would like to request clarity on anything that I've written about, please don't hesitate to ask.
- Divination tea
Submitted question covered in this blog: "How can divination be improved upon?" One way that I try to improve my divination experience is to use a divination aid, such as a focus or centre point, grounding and cleansing, meditation, and by drinking a divination potion or tea blend beforehand. Thank you for submitting this inquiry. Personally, towards this purpose, I like to harvest dandelion roots in the spring time. One of the most important awarenesses when harvesting any plants is how far away the plant is growing from sources of pollution, such as traffic and roadways, or factories, etc. Plants absorb minerals as well as chemicals found within the dirt. And so, be sure to harvest plants from noncontaminated soil. Harvesting this root can be a little tricky to do. It is important to be careful not to snap or break the root when pulling the plant from the ground. Or, it may need to be dug out depending. There are special gardening tools specifically made to allow easier harvesting. However, are not really required once you get the hang of it. The roots are not the only useful part of this plant as the leaves and flowers are very edible, contain vitamins and the flowers can also be made into a dandelion syrup with healing, prosperity and empowerment properties. For this blog, I'm going to focus on just the root. Once the dirty is removed, the root can be collected with the thin brown rind attached, and then cut into small 1 cm length segments (about 1/3rd of an inch) and then left to dry out. Can be laid out in a sunny location or a dehydrater machine can be used to speed up the drying process. Tea made with dandelion root tends to hold a strong nutty flavour and aroma. If prefer more of a coffee taste and experience, the root segments can be oven roasted at a low temperature for about 40 minutes. Once completely dried out, the dandelion root can be added to tea blends or steeped in their own. The roots can be stored all year round in a sealed container placed in a cool, dry and dark location. A teaspoon of dried root can be added to other tea blends. It would be my preference to drink the potion or tea right before initiating divination, no matter the technique being used. Of course, you can drink the solution slowly during the divination practice depending. No matter the method or technique or association that you use to do divination, always trust your intuition and follow your instincts. There is no right or wrong way to connect with the divine. Some of the different divination techniques that I am familiar with are: Automatic Writing or Scribbling Crystal Ball Scrying Rune Castings Charm Castings Tea Leaf Readings Astrological Analysis Water Scrying Tarot Readings Oracle Card Pulls Pendulums Wittan Sticks Black Mirrors Deity Divination, such as during ritual, Spirit Divination, such as using a spirit board, ...and there are so much more available! Divination and Witches I've also often heard about a bit of a stereotype around this when it comes to witches. Witches are definitely known for the use of divination techniques and tools, such as Tarot for example which is one of the more popular forms of divination used. However, there are many types of divination that some witches (not all) explore as part of their ongoing practices. It should be mentioned that it is not expected that in order to be a witch that one would need to know all or one or any of the many divination techniques, as some seem to believe. Simply doing divination does not make someone a witch. It is in hopes that this has helped to consider ways in which to improve your divination practices.
- Working with pendulums
Submitted question covered in this blog: " How do pendulums work? " A pendulum is really any object of query that is suspended and hangs in a way that it can freely swing back and forth, side to side and around, etc. It is a tool of your own intuition. And so, reading the answers and trusting in its use and acknowledgement is key for it to continue to communicate well. Be sure to be grounded beforehand, confirm yes/no before asking your question, and trust your intuition to use the pendulum to guide you. You should feel confident in your pendulum to answer accurately. Avoid asking repetitive questions to a pendulum to see how it gives answers the same question. Because, just like in any relationship, if you do not trust and accept in the guidance offered, the pendulum will stop guiding you efficiently. If you find that your pendulum just isn't giving accurate answers, cleanse it and start to rebuild an energetic relationship with it. Some pendulums are created specifically for this use and can be purchased at most metaphysical shops and stores. However, purchasing a pendulum for your use is not entirely necessary. A pendulum can be made from home made objects and string, or a chain and pendant, or even with the use of hanging chime bells, etc. No matter the intention being charged into the pendulum in order to work with your intuition, can usually only give Positive, Negative or Unknown suggested answers. Many may phrase these answers as, Yes, No, or Unsure when asking a specific question. The proper way to ask a question to a pendulum is to be sure the question has a close-ended answer. For example, the question can be answered with a yes, or a no, or maybe, or unsure. Avoid asking open ended questions that requires more information than can be simply affirmed. For example, "Where will I be in five years?" Unless mapped out the possible choices on a pendulum chart, the answer may be too complicated for a pendulum to answer directly. As long as you are prepared to receive the answer, I personaly do not believe that there are "wrong" questions to ask. To start, take a few deep breaths, and then hold the chain or string or chain of the pendulum from the end so that the pendulum's weight pulls it straight, centred and as still as possible. The weighted object must hang suspended and freely in order to accurately translate messages. Ask the pendulum to "show a 'YES'", and while holding that in your thoughts run your other hand's fingers down the string or chain starting at the top and working your way down to the pendulum weight charging with the intention of your question. Then, hold that same hand underneath the pendulum and allow it to hang still and freely. The way that it stays to swing is how it will answer positive to your question. So the same thing again only this time ask the pendulum to "Show a 'NO'", and notice how it swings differently - this is how it will answer negative to your question. Now, do this one last time. However, ask the pendulum the question you want the answer too. Watch carefully how the pendulum starts to swing and notice which answer the pendulum is trying to give you. If it swings in a way that was not described, the answer may be unsure or unknown at this time. The first types of pendulums were made by tying a string to any weighted object, such as a wedding ring, for example, and using it to determine answers about love, marriage, child barring, fortune and prosperity, etc. In this example, taking the wedding ring of a pregnant wife and hanging out in front of the women's emerging belly to ask whether she will give birth to a boy or a girl. If the pendulum swings one way, it's a girl, swings another way then, it's a boy. Over the years pendulum's have become a powerful divination tool steered and directed by energy. It can not only be used to connect with our own energy and intuition. Many practitioners use pendulums to locate lost or misplaced items, or to find direction. But also, reading the energy of others' energy as well. This is why some mediums also sometimes are known to use pendulums as a communication tool to connect with the energy of spirits of their sitters' departed loved ones. Be sure to ask your pendulum to show you how it will answer "yes, no, or unsure" before charging it with your initial question to be sure you read the pendulum the way intented. Also, pendulums can be used to connect with spirits or ancestors, etc. - Yes. However, in my experience this usually requires connecting with the spirit beforehand and asking them to manipulate the pendulum with their choices, and shouldn't be happening without your intention to do so. There are also layouts and pendulum charts available where as you hold a pendulum above it and watch what options the pendulum swings towards or points too in the chart or specified layout. Thank you for visiting my website, and for reading my blog. Any inquiries can be submitted to AskaGreyWitch.com if there are any questions or need to clarity further. I am always happy to help. ...
- Freezer binding
Submitted question covered in this blog: " About a freezer spell can I freeze someone for more than one person at a time? " Thank you for submitting this as it's an interesting question to talk about., And it's a topic that hasn't been asked about as of yet so far. 🙂 First, I feel that I should express what a freezer spell is for those who are curious. It is a kind of defensive magick. A binding is a type of a spell that is often used to prevent another person from causing harm to others, or themselves. One way is to keep repeating an incantation while you do a working that is associated with preventing or stopping someone from doing something or causing harm. The working can be anything that you associate with binding. The more personally satisfying to you - the better. It can be as simple as wrapping someone's picture with a black ribbon while you chant the incantation (symbolically binding them with your intention) Or, it can be as complicated as you feel necessary. Just be sure that what you do is a meaningful process. Follow your instincts and trust your intuition. There are many different kinds of bindings or different ways to bind someone. Which, a freezer spell is one. The common intention of a freezer spell is to 'stop someone's actions' from causing harm. It's meant to stop someone in their tracks and putting them 'on pause' momentarily. Like, "freezing" them in place (symbolically) for the time being until something else can be figured out on how to deal with that particular person. Basically, you create an association with a person which can either be via a picture, or a drawing, or a logo, or a sigil, or a petition, or a poppet, or any other tag lock associated to the target of the spell. Once this magickal tag is created (and association established and activated). Then, it is placed in water (I like to use moon water or sun water depending on the situation) into any freezer safe container will work, even perhaps in a ziplock bag. Fill with water only until completely submerged. Then, place in the freezer (or outside during a cold winter) with intention to slow down and stop the efforts or goals is the target while the water freezes to ice. This can even be done in a puddle or small pond outside right before temperatures drop in the winter season turning the puddle or small pond to ice. When the weather warms melting the ice the target would be then released from the influence of the spell. Or, by taking out of the freezer allowing it to melt or smashing the ice would release the target from the binding and also sets the target free from the influence of the spell. In my opinion smashing the ice releasing the target quickly may result in a quick return of the problem at hand and may require being ready with your next course of action right away. Using more force then needed to smash the 'cage' of ice may briefly shock or stun the target within the situation. Use your intuition and follow your instincts. Freezer spells do not cause harm itself and are not meant to be perminant. It's often a temporary quick solution to offer opportunity to provide more time to think, decide, contemplate or resolve what to do next. Quite often this can lead to the preparation of more compound or intricate magick to be used further. Other times, a momentary pause is all that's required. This obviously would be depending on the situation causing the need for a freezer spell to be used in the first place, of course. Back to the submitted question, more than one target can be implemented into a freezer spell if the actions wanting to stop of each are the same or similar intentions involved. For example, two people together committing the same offence. You can also do separate freeze bindings for each target individually so that each can be released separately when ready to deal with each person appropriately. From that point on, different magickal workings further could be applied to each person separately as seen fit, if necessary. An entire group can also be incorporated into a freezer spell by using the group's commonly used name or title, such as an organization or business, government department, group proceeding, etc. However, please keep in mind that the actions to bind or "freeze" would need to be cooperative amongst the entire group. In other words, the focus would be on the collaborative effort or goal of the entire group all together. This can require much more focus and intention to pull off. But, it is do-able. Sometimes, when dealing with an entire team of people, simply freeze binding the lead or leader of the targeted group is sufficient. I'd like to reiterate that a freezer spell is not intended to cause harm or destruction in someone's life and (in my view) os not considered a baneful working. It is usually done as a self defence, intended to hold someone back or to take a break from someone's behavior for a moment. It can often give time to rethink a strategy on how to handle a situation that has unexpectedly materialized and may need to be energetically rebalanced in a witch's favour. Please reach out to me via greywitchbryan@gmail.com or www.askagreywitch.com if I can make this entry any clearer or provide further example of a freezer spell. Other questions can also be submitted. Thank you for reading my blog!
- A love ritual example
Submitted question covered in this blog: " Can you please share an example of a love spell? " Absolutely! There are so so many many different examples of spells online or share within popular social media these days. It's important with any spell work that it's ritual and influence feels personally satisfying to you as a practitioner of your own magick. With spells that are provided by others, always implement your own style, intention, and practices into the work to make the workings your own. Beforehand, I like to really contemplate the reasoning behind doing any spell, and staying true to inner self's desire. But, especially with spells that involve love. In my opinion, shadow work can be hugely instrumental in being sure spells are not done unnecessarily, and helps avoid spells leading to undesirable results or outcomes. In case helpful: https://www.askagreywitch.com/post/shadow-work-in-my-opinion shadow work in my opinion. Love spells and potions are by far the most popular sought out magickal workings amongst new witches than any other form of magick. This example below is intended to bring two people together to form a strong loving solid connection. It does not work well for brief encounters or quick love affairs, etc. Here is one simple example in hopes helpful: To begin, you'll need a long ribbon red in colour (or can be white. If protection is in order, use black, etc) and create two poppets or representations of the two people to bring together. One of them may represent yourself, if you wish and the other of another specific person, or a yet-to-be-known person with specific qualities. Add those specific qualities into the second poppet doll. Some examples of poppet dolls can be seen in this video: https://www.askagreywitch.com/post/working-with-poppets working with poppets. To which, this spell was also mentioned. Activate each poppet to be associated as the people that each represents. Consecrate it, Bless it, or do as per part of your practice. When the poppet feels ready, it can then be used as a tag in the spell. Lay the ribbon long and straight, placing a doll at each end of the ribbon. While envisioning in your mind these two people happily together, slowly move each doll along ribbon towards eachother. Continue to visualize their happiness. If you're one of the people represented, then be in that moment of happiness to which comes from coming together with the other person represented. Incantations can be spoken to help focus the intention. When the poppets meet in the center of the ribbon, the ribbon can then be wrapped around them and both left to sit together 'wrapped in eachother's love' - not to be disturbed. The length of time of this is up to the practitioner. If intending a marriage to form, tie the ribbon ends together binding the poppets together, and place somewhere to be left undisturbed. Personally, with this type of working in a spell, if the poppets are made from biodegradable materials only, like stick/vine poppets for example, I like to place somewhere undisclosed, in a forest, amongst nature. Somewhere where they won't be discovered and in a place I think would make the perfect "cabin" location, or get-away spot for these two loving people (poppets) to be alone and together. After 'hiding' the working, I would spend some time in that area thinking about the offering, or requesting assistance from ancesters, the universe, Deity, Fae, or whatever part of your practice. After leaving, I would not return to the location. It is in hopes that this example is helpful. Thank you for reading my blog! If you're curious, please feel free to submit your questions to AskaGreyWitch.com
- What type of witch are you?
Submitted question covered in this blog: " How do you know what kind of witch you are? " It's important to note that each and every witch is different from the next. There are just as many types of witches, as there are witches . Each is unique in the ways of the craft. The dictionary definition of a practice is the customary, habitual, or expected procedure or way of doing of something or to perform (an activity) or exercise (a skill) repeatedly or regularly in order to improve or maintain one's proficiency. As much as there are types of and many more "lables" for witches, this doesn't actually matter ! Try to setup a practice that is personally meaningful and spiritually satisfying to you. If you see a ritual or spell described here on www.askagreywitch.com please feel free to change and manipulate the workings so that it personally fits best with your own associations and intentions. What works for me may not work for you in the same ways, and vice versa. We all have our own experiences in life which gives us all different associations. No matter what your path is in the craft, we can all do simular magick in our own ways. Research and Experience are really key to helping any practitioner of magick to figure out what would most likely be useful and work best for them. Practices can look like what ever you want it to. The whole point is to create habits and rituals that better ourselves in our skills and self development. For example, someone who primarily works with plants, their practice may involve a regularly done routine of harvesting and gathering herbs to make potions and teas that assist with health or some day to day tasks alongside the maintenance and care given to the plants and trees around them. They may consider themselves a 'green witch'. Here is a brief example: https://www.askagreywitch.com/post/green-witchcraft green witchcraft. Or, With a practice revolving around spirit work, ancestors, or other ways of bridging the veil between lofe and death, one may consider themselves a 'hedge witch'. Here is a brief example: https://www.askagreywitch.com/post/spirit-mediumship spirit mediumship or https://www.askagreywitch.com/post/ouiji-boards spirit boards. Having experience with psychic influence, forsoothing, divination, etc. some might identify as an astral witch or 'psychic witch', Some examples: https://www.askagreywitch.com/post/runes-and-tarot rune and tarot reading. ... Some identify as ceremonial witches, astro or cosmic witches, kitchen witches, crystal witches, hearth witches, sea witches, sex or love witches, ...hereditary, secular, solotary, coven-based... And, there are many many more lables and ways in which a witch may identify themselves or clarify the realm of their practice in the craft. Each of the examples mentioned can also intertwine into other realms of magick depending on intention and traditional focus used. There are non Wiccan practitioners that follow folk traditions which also vary depending on the area, country, traditions, etc. Much folk magick is passed down through generational teachings. However, in recent years has become much more accessible to the general public through books, websites, YouTube channels, etc. There are Wiccan practitioners that follow religious practices and guidelines in which involve magickal workings within the traditions, rituals and customs. There are also some who have interesting mixes of folk practices and religious beleifs and traditions. There are even many eclectic magickal practitioners and eclectic religious practices. In these cases, a witch borrows from multiple sources and realms of magick to construct a new, unique practice that personally speaks to them specifically. There are also chaos magickal practitioners who never develops a personalized practice. In this case, what applied yesterday may be irrelevant today - All that matters today is what is used today. Eclectic and Chaos practitioners are never confined by the concept of tradition. So, if there are just as many types if witches as there are witches, then, how would one know what type of witch they are? If this matters to you, FIRST: walk a path in the craft that you are very comfortable with and that speaks to you! Setup a practice surrounding what you do so that it is personally satisfying. THEN, take a look at your practices and formed traditions, and do research to determine the type of witch in which you can identify with. Do not try to fit into a specific type. Certainly, don't allow someone else to tell you what kind of witch you are . Just be yourself, and the rest will determine itself. It should also be mentioned that one witch can work in many different realms of magick and many areas of the craft that they resonate with. Also, a witch may move through different seasons and transcend realms of magick throughout their lifetime. More about the type of witch that I personally identify with can be read on the about me page at: https://www.askagreywitch.com/greywitchbryan Trust your instincts, and follow your intuition. It is in hopes that this is helpful - Blessed be.
- Know when to be silent
Submitted question covered in this blog : " What is and not supposed to be discussed with other witches? " Thank you so much for submitting this question as it is interesting, and very true, that there are certain things in which a witch tends to keep to themselves - even from other witches! And, there could be many different reasons for this. First, practices in witchcraft are extremely personal. As mentioned in this previous blog entry: https://www.askagreywitch.com/post/what-type-of-witch-are-you What type of witch are you? The more personally satisfying a spell is to to the practitioner the more likely manifestation will occur. The more we associate with and resonate with the workings, the more truely we connect with our inner desire and intentions to have that desire fulfilled. Since we all have our own unique experiences and associations in life, etc. It can sometimes be difficult to understand another witch's incantation of a spell, expectation of ritual, components of workings, and other processes of their magick. Secondly, making all of your personal practice aware and available to just anyone can leave a witch to feel vulnerable. Take protections, for example. Knowing how a witch fully protected themselves can assist in maliciousness or causing influence from a curse or hex. If you know how one protects themselves, some baneful workings can strategically work around those protections. This is one reason why it's encouraged to use layers of protection. Also, as mentioned in this previous blog entry: https://www.askagreywitch.com/post/protections Protecting yourself further. For thos reason, witches tend to only share certain information with very trusted individuals or fellow coven members. A very important reason many witches keep much of their magick to themselves, is to preserve it's special meaning and personal intentions. Given the mentioned above, many witches believe that in sharing all of their personal rituals and traditions can leave much open to mis-interpretation. Or, mis-understandings, etc. This can dull-down the influence in which their magick may have. So, in other words, to have less negativity up against you by avoiding negative opinions of others from not sharing with them about your practice. No one knows you more than you. Associations come from within and our life experiences. And so, you are the only one who can fully understand your associations and symbilisms, etc. In online social communities, some novice witches often post pictures of their results to egg cleansing spells, or lemon cleansing spells, or candle wax spells, cord cutting spells, etc. asking other witches for their interpretation. This should also be avoided . Simply, no one else but you can really fully read your own divinatory ritual. If you're not confident enough to read the results of your own divination working, then you may not be ready to attempt such a spell as of yet, in which more research or learning may be required. Don't give up trying to do your own workings until your confident in what you're doing. Always, trust your instincts, and follow your intuition. And lastly, witches may not even reveal that they're practitioners in the first place to avoid receiving unnecessary ridicule, judgement, or discrimination from others who may not understand or have bias about what it means to be a witch. After all, some still live in fear for being disclosed as a witch. Whether co-workers, family members, neighbours, or sometimes even close friends, etc. close relationships can be massively affected and lives drastically changed by "coming out of the broom-closet" unintentionally. One should not "out" a witch or disclose a practitioner without their approval. Not yet even mentioning the learning of the history involving the witch trials, and other brutal attacks on witches in the past can leave one to want to protect themselves further by staying sucluded, or solitary and practice very discretely. As shown in this previous blog entry: https://www.askagreywitch.com/post/hollywood-misconceptions "Hollywood" Misconceptions, there are still so many misconceptions of witches these days that many witches rather stick to themselves than to risk feeling prosecuted or criticized for being who they are themselves. For this reason, many covens have operated in secrecy and some still do. In these cases, coven members are not usually permitted to talk about coven workings or coven business outside of the circle of coven members. This is sometimes done for the protection and saftey of its members. Thank you for reading my blog, it is in hopes helpful. If you have any questions that I can answer from my own personal perspectives, please feel free to submit them at AskaGreyWitch.com Blessed be.
- A quantifiable change in trust
Submitted question covered in this blog: " Do you know spells to make someone with trust issues trust you again " Thank you for this relatable question. Building trust is an important aspect to the development of any relationship whether it be a neighbour, friend, relative, co-worker, colleague, or future, current or past significant other, etc. It feels necessary to first point out that trust is usually built in layers over long periods of time. Free will is always our own. And so, Honouring commitments, admitting when wrong, and being honest will compliment the influence to trust you and enhance workings such as a trust spell. The more reason this someone has been given to not trust you, the less influence a spell like this will have. However, if you feel that this someone needs to heal first, I'd suggest allowing or working towards that first, before attempting a trust spell or simular to the simple suggestion below: A quick word of caution: If giving the target of a trust spell actual reasons to not trust you, then doing the trust spell could actually cause harm. Such as, if the other person is influenced to trust you more and of you break that trust, they may feel more vulnerable or be even more hurt from the trust that has been built up if/when it is broken. (If so, would be working against the workings of your own spell). Simular with someone who already has had trust issues themselves, they may not feel the influence of trusting very strongly. Especially if they require help to work out some of their own shadows of inner issues regarding trusting others (within their own lives) before trust can even truely be established concretely - magickally or not. There are many trust spells that involve two or more people to be trusted that are required to participate. Such as, a blood oath spell. However, there are also workings that send out influence to trust to a target from the caster alone. This spell shared here is a more basic cast. It's meant to be used to build on existing trust with someone, and to assist with aligned mundane actions. Trust Spell For this spell, you'll need a pen or pencil, piece of paper, a candle, and a fireproof dish. Place a ritual candle in or near a fireproof container (or cauldron). I like to use 1 hour burntime candles. But, You can use any candle really. Tea-lite candles would work. Just never leave lit candles unattended. Charge the candle with your energy inwhich envisioning this "someone" now trusting you. Lite the candle, and sit with it with this vision in your mind. Then, Write this someone's name on a piece of paper and whilst slowly drawing the best circle you can around their name moving in a clockwise direction, concentrate on their face and them trusting you, until the circle is completely drawn. An incantation can also be spoken, such as, for example: "Your trust from you "someone's name" is what I desire. Wind, Earth, Air, and Fire. Ruled by spirit as all should be. As I speak, so shall it be. So mote it be." - I don't usually share incantation examples because you can say your own words just as long as you speak from your heart, with intention. If you feel you can connect with your inner desire unspokenly while drawing the circle, by all means then don't use an incantation. Best started doing during a new moon to encourage new beginnings of trust. Do the above again and again as many times as you feel necessary. Numeroligically speaking for example, you could redraw nine circles around the name, each time knowing that person trusts you and each time also repeating the incantation (if using). When you feel satisfied that enough influence has been built up - set fire to the peice of paper over the flame of the candle and place into the fireproof dish, container or cauldron so to allow to burn completly and not hurt yourself. Watch it burn and feel the new reality of your intention. Continue to sit with the candle as it continues to burn out. Think about or meditate on this person now trusting you. Let the candle continue to burn completly out. -- Feel free to repeat this ritual as often as felt required or necessary. As mentioned, trust often has to be built in layers and over periods of time. Have patience. And, giving this other person more reasons to choose to follow through with the influence that they feel from the spell to trust you is an important step to be confident in your magick. Your genuinity will boost and greatly assist with this spell's results. Follow through with your magickal intention as it manifests in the mundane. Be safe always, Blessed be.
- Ritual baths
Submitted question covered in this blog: " How are ritual baths different from regular baths?" Thank you for this question! Bathing can be one of the most intimate and grounding experiences and it’s one we have on a very regular basis. And yet, we often treat it like a chore or a habit - something we have to do or need to do. As if it's not something that has any spiritual resonance. It is just like any bath or shower, except bringing an element of spirituality or ceremony into it. This doesn’t have to be an elaborate, or difficult and it shouldn’t include any elements that don’t actually feel nourishing, grounding, and supportive for yourself personally. I like to think of the bathtub as a massive cauldron in which you are the main ingredient in the spell. Ritual baths can serve many different purposes more so than just a regular bath as long as you set an intention for creating the ritual. You might want a ritual bath to cleanse you of negativity after a bad day, to help you heal from a difficult experience or source of trauma, to cultivate self-love, or simply to relax. It can also be a convinient way to cleanse yourself and your energy on a regular basis. There are many different ways to create a ritual bath, depending on your own interests, sensitivities, and environment. If you’ve had a tough day, or find yourself in a negative headspace, or want to wash away a difficult interaction, or perhaps you’ve been doing some heavy shadow work or had some difficult triggers come up and now in need of deeper healing and attention. A cleansing bath ritual may be just what may help. It's important to cultivate self-love, for our own personalities, hearts, passions, and bodies. A self-love ritual bath can make a huge difference when you’ve been feeling down on yourself and are in need of a pick-me-up from within. Treat yourself like a goddess or god!!! Ritual bathing may sound exotic, ancient, or romantic. However, it actually can be enhancing for self-care and getting grounded in one's own practice. These kinds of rituals can be used for a variety of purposes from cleansing bath rituals, self-love bath rituals, baths for healing, and you can even use them to help you align with or celebrate the seasons, or moon phases, etc. Your ritual bath might be an hour-long soak with bath salts, candles, crystals, chanting, and meditation. Or, your ritual bath might simply be you standing in the shower, visualizing negative energy washing off of you and going down the drain. Or it could be anything that feels right for you. Aromatherapy is a powerful tool for ritual bathing and fits perfectly with self care. You can add essential oils such as lavender, rose, neroli, or jasmine directly to the bathwater or dilute them in Epsom salts. You can also hang organic, fresh herbs such as rosemary or eucalyptus directly from the faucet of the tub so that the warm water runs through them and activates their scent through out the water. Natural plants and oils can have healing properties, as well as being metaphysical and spiritual sources of support. Choose a scent based on your intention. I like to surround myself with potted plants sitting around the bathtub. Whether you like to sing in the shower yourself or not, sound can be a powerful tool for cleansing and relaxation. You might place a waterproof speaker in the bath not far from you or play music from your phone, (across the room where it can’t get wet, for example). Choose music that relaxes or inspires you, listen to soothing sounds of rain or the ocean, or opt for drumming or chanting . You could even listen to a guided meditation or affirmations. It’s also a totally valid choice to opt for silence in your ritual bath, which is often my personal preference. My day to day life can be so noisy and busy that 15-30 minutes of a totally quiet ritual bath can feel like a reset. Crystals are great accompaniments to help ground you and support your intentions. I would never recommend placing crystals in the water directly, since there are some types of crystals that can become damaged (like selenite) or even poisonous (like pyrite), if exposed to liquid water, and others that can make the bathwater unsafe! Place water-safe crystals around the tub or hold them in your hands while you soak. Quartz crystals are ideal for this as they don’t break down if/when wet. Candles are one of my go-to elements of a ritual bath. I like to place a few candles around the edge of the bathtub and keep the lights off so I can sit in the quiet, peaceful candlelight. Always practice fire safety and blow the candles out before leaving the room. If wanting to preserve the charged energies if a candle, simply snuff out the flame instead of blowing it out, and it can be re-lit with the same energies another time. Perhaps, for the next ritual bath, and so on. You can also incorporate any of your favourite bath products into a ritual bath, such as body oil, bath salts, bath bomb, or even bubble bath. Anything that makes you feel empowered, pampered, nourished, and soothed is going to be appropriate. You can also incorporate spiritual baths / ritual bathing into other elements of your spiritual practice. Such as, baths are an excellent addition to the seasonal sabbats and the moon phases, whether as a standalone ritual, or part of a larger celebration, such as a dedication or initiation, etc. There’s something very empowering about becoming your own healer, taking it upon yourself to prioritize self care, self love, or spiritual cleansing and healing the soul. Etc. A bathtub ritual is just one of many simple ways to implement witchcraft into daily life routines and practices. Blessed be
- Aspectual demonic pacts
Submitted question covered in this blog: " How do you null a blood pact with a demon?" Thank you for your submitted messages on the AskaGreyWitch.com website. My response to your question really is dependent on the ritual, traditions, customs involved. Any deity work, (including demons) is usually based on a built upon relationship with that archetyptal aspect of human nature. And so, my advice would be to determine what your own intentions are more clearly in working with such forces. Shadow work may be able to help with this inner realization and clarity. As a kind of Secular Seax Wiccan myself and Grey Witch it is my perspective that it is the aspects of our own human nature in which we interact with, within demon devotion and deity worship. More would need to be known about the type of 'blood pact' that you described between you and your relative that you mentioned which happened 20 years ago (as described in the original message). For example, there are different kinds of blood pact spells that I can think of off the top of my head. Such as a blood pact between two individuals that acts as a connection with a commonality of trust in the relationship amongst. Or, such as an agreement blood pact to fulfill a particular goal or accomplishment together. And then, there are the blood pacts that are similar to a devotion ritual. If the type of pact made was the latter of the three types mentioned above, then, the goal of the pact would need to be fulfilled. It is also always your fundamental right and free will to change your devotion by re-negotiating the terms of the pact made. In such a case, all involved with the pact would need to be in agreement to the re-negotiation and creation of the new terms. One thing that i've learned from other witches who work with demons is that there is always a price that accompanies any requests. It has become clear to me that witches should not be vague with the terms of agreement when binding themselves to any pact. Especially with a demon, as any existing loopholes will be exploited. So, if you decide to work with demons in your personal practice, go forth with caution. Image of an evil eye pentant typically used for protection. Demons are described differently in different cultures and traditions. So, this would also depend on your practice. Some even believe that some fae are demonic entities in their own rite from another realm. This previous blog entry mentions a submitted question regarding a type of deity that is typically referred to as a demon in the other cultures mentioned: https://www.askagreywitch.com/post/working-with-deities as example, in case helpful. In working with summoned demonic aspectual forces, it is particularly important to create layers of protection for yourself, and others involved. Some particular areas to attend to would be external spiritual protections, internal psychic protections, and other personal protections. Some ideas may be inspired by this other more popular blog entry: https://www.askagreywitch.com/post/protections in case helpful as well :) The last thing I feel is important to mention is that I am aware that if unable to acheive, complete or fulfill the goal of a demonic pact there can be unforeseen consequences. This can also leave a witch to be viewed as unreliable, untrust worthy, or tainted to the specific Pantheon, and the witch is seemingly viewed by demons as damaged goods. In this case, the witch who promised results may lose any obtained gifts or abilities that have been bestowed to the witch as leverage in the initial agreement, and may find themselves unable to continue devotion. That being said, it's worth reiterating: if you decide to work with demons in your personal practice, go forth with caution . It is in hopes that this response has provided some direction or inspiration. Please feel free to submit any other questions that you may have to AskaGreyWitch.com - thanks for reading my blog!!! Blessed be.
- Assistance quitting a bad habit
The submitted question covered in this blog: " Do you know a spell to help quit smoking?" Any bad habit can be difficult and challenging to overcome, especially something as common as to quit smoking cigarettes. But, not limited to. It can include anything from nail biting, to over spending, or procrastination, etc. Creating a magickal substitute-action to the 'craving' could help to avoid falling into the temptation of continuing whatever bad habit wanting to avoid. A bad habit can be any tempting repeated action that you would like to give up or to stop doing. It is usually a behavioral pattern that is seen as being negative, or having a negative impact. To get started, you'll need 3 crystals (Amethyst, or other that you resonate with). Can be any size, or as a substitute can even just use clear quartz or even three black stones found outside amongst nature. You'll also need 3 black ritual candles (about an hour or so burn time each). Can be white, orange, or yellow, or other colour that you resonate with the intention of quitting the old habit). White is always a good substitute for any colour of candle. Before beginning, feel free to dress one of the candles in Patchouli oil and herbs. Can use an infusion of cedar or sandlewood, etc. with olive oil or mineral oil, etc. as a substitute (careful getting on skin if sensitive or allergic). Herbs that can be used are rosemary, sage, or another of your choosing that resonates with the intention of the working. The candle can also be dressed in black salt if you feel would add to the cleansing and banishment of the addictive habit. I personally also like to add cinnamon to boost the spell's empowerment. Using one of the dressed candles, surround with the stones or crystals. Light the one candle and envision receiving the benifits of no longer having that particular bad habit. For example, improved health, better lifestyle, more money in your wallet, no longer smoking, etc. ...And having self control over what you choose to do. This would be the perfect time to speak an incantation, blessing or prayer depending on your practice and traditions. Assistance may also be summoned at this time of wotking with a diety, ancestor, or spirit guide, etc. depending on your practice and traditions. While the candle burns, meditate and continue to visualize the desired outcome. Do what feels right to you during this moment. Once you feel satisfied with the working you can allow the candle to burn completly out. - Never leave a burning candle unattended. Once the candle has burned completely out, thank any assistance offered during, and gather one of the stones or crystals to carry with you in your pocket. As you continue throughout your day, remember the stone or crystal you have in your pocket and that it carries the energy of the candle spell with you. When you feel the slightest temptation to do the undesired bad habit, hold the stone in your hand, rub it with your finger, and draw in the energy and experience of doing the candle spell. Remind yourself of the visualization of the bad habit no longer needed, and no longer effecting you. Hold onto the stone or crystal until the urge passes. If you still find it difficult to resist the bad habit, do the ritual again with the second candle, and afterwards, gather a second charged stone or crystal to also carry with you. Now with both stones or crystals in your pocket, remembering their intention to remind you that bad habit is no longer in your life. Having the influence of two stones or crystals should assist with breaking the habitual behaviour. If you are still finding it difficult to resist with two stones or crystals, do the ritual again with the third candle and then gather all three of the stones or crystals and carry them all with you. You could also place the stones in strategic locations around your home or work place where they would assist to avoid the bad habit. At this point during this spellworking, if using all three stones and their influence is still not helping resist the bad habit, there could be further underlining issues for yourself to acknowledge and address first with other self workings or through shadow work. More information about shadow work is available in this previous blog entry: https://www.askagreywitch.com/post/shadow-work-in-my-opinion which also includes a link to shadow work expanded in further, as well as shadow work journaling exercise examples. It is in hopes that the simple spell shared here is helpful. Please keep in mind that anything learned here should be adapted to suit your unique associations and practices. Feel free to add to or change whatever you see fit that would be most connecting to you. Afterall, the more satisfying spellwork is to the caster, the more likely the intention will manifest. If there are any questions, either regarding the above or in a new topic, all inquiries can be submitted at www.askagreywitch.com Thank you for reading my blog! Blessed be.
- Wicca in more detail
Submitted question covered in this blog: " What is Wicca and what are the different types?" This question is very much appreciated since there are common misunderstandings due to the large influence the religion of Wicca has had on the modern expression of spirituality and practices of witchcraft. First introduced in 1954 to the general public in England by Gerald Gardner, what became known as the Gardnerian tradition of Wicca is considered the most recognized traditions from which most Wiccan paths developed. As a nature based religion that often involves the use of magick, it usually involves the worshipping and/or working with a Goddess and a God. These may be regarded as having many different divine aspects which can be identified and associated with many diverse pagan deities. Some which are from different historical pantheons. Due to the fact that I work with aspects of my own human nature (instead of gods and goddesses) from a humanistic approach, I am considered a secular Wiccan. To be Wiccan and non-theistic is a rare combination and does not fit for everyone who considers themselves a Wiccan. Many Wiccans refer to a goddess deity as the "Lady" and a god deity as the "Lord". These two deities are sometimes viewed as facets of a greater form of divinity which is regarded as an impersonal energy or force, rather than a personal entity. While dualism is very common in Wicca, it is not always necessary. Celebrations encompass the moon cycles commonly associated with the Goddess (or, feminine aspects of nature) and the cycles of the Sun, commonly associated with the Horned God (or, masculine aspects of nature). - Wheel of the Year celebrations The Rede of the Wiccae is a popular expression of morality that some Wiccans view as a guide of practice. However, it is not universally accepted. More about that is available at: https://www.askagreywitch.com/witchcraft Some Wiccan traditions listed below (not limited to) are similar to “denominations” whereas each has their own rituals, practices, and perspectives: Gardnerian – Its roots are attributed to Gerald Gardner’s own experience with the New Forest Coven, as well as inspiration from sources such as Freemasonry, occultism, eastern religions, and naturism. Gardnerian Wicca and similar traditions are sometimes referred to as British Traditional Wicca, in which one usually has to be initiated by a coven. Alexandrian – Founded by Alex Sanders (“King of the Witches”) in England in the 1960s. Very similar to Gardnerian Wicca, with a strong emphasis on ceremonial magick. Also, one usually has to be initiated by a coven. Feri / Faery – Created by Victor Anderson and Gwydion Pendderwen in California in the 1960s. Initially pre-Gardnerian however later influenced by Gardner and Alexandrian Wicca. Starhawk received training in this tradition. Georgian Wicca – Founded by George Patterson in California in the 1970s. This tradition draws from Gardnerian and Alexandrian sources and also one usually has to be initiated by a coven. Seax Wicca – Created by Raymond Buckland in the 1970s. Buckland was originally Gardnerian, but founded his own tradition in America using Saxon heritage. It is more open and democratic then Gardnerian or Alexandrian traditions. One may be self initiated. Reclaiming – Starhawk co-founded the Reclaiming Collective in the 1980s, linking spirituality, magick, and political activism. Dianic – Known as Feminist Wicca, this tradition honours the Goddess, specifically the phases of Maiden-Mother-Crone. Named after the Roman goddess Diana. Some groups are exclusive to women. One usually has to be initiated by a coven. ... And, there are many many others!!! - A Celtic Witch's Knot The above list is a sample of some of the ways in which Wicca branches out, stemming from one common tradition involving witchcraft. There are also: Hereditary / Family t raditions that have passed down through generaltions of family teachings. Therefore, claim blood lineage with tradition not directly related to Gardnerian Wicca. And Eclectic – Doesn’t follow a specific tradition. But, borrows from many practices and cultures where appropriate. Can be initiatory by a coven or self-initiatory, practiced in a group or solitary. And then, there are also the Solitary Practitioners – Those whom practice without a coven, who learn and practice on their own. Usually self-initiatory and eclectic-based. As well as, Secular Practitioners who do not incorporate deities into their practice and beliefs. But rather, focus on the different aspects of their own human nature and individual inner strengths within the structure of their traditions. Not to mention, the many more witches whom do not identify as Wiccan at all and which may not even be aware of the wiccan influences that exist in most modern witchcraft practices. - Five elements of the pentacle Some witchcraft practices that originate from Wicca are: Openning / closing of a circle Drawing down of the Moon ritual Initiation into a tradition Consecration Certain alter arrangements and setups Covens, esbats, and sabbats Ceremonies such as a hand fasting, cake and ale, etc. Calling of the quarters or cardinal directions, etc. Expressions such as: "as above, so below"; "so mote it be"; "blessed be"; "merry meet", and "merry part"; etc. ... And, there's lots more! It should be mentioned that witchcraft is an expression of spirituallity. And so, as long as you are connection with your true intention in your workings, that's all that matters. The religions of Wicca are not required to be a witch. Thank you so much for reading my blog. I do hope that this was helpful. If you have questions, please don't hesitate to submit them at AskaGreyWitch.com
- Kitchen witchery
Submitted question covered in this blog: " Can magick be used in every day cooking using ordinary ingredients? " Thank you to whom submitted this question! As a kitchen witch myself, I can say with confidence that spells with food so not need to be complicated. Within the video, I included a basic Happiness Cake Spell, in hopes that it brings joy and happiness to you and your families. The answer to this question is simple. ABSOLUTELY!!! In fact, an area of the craft has been designated "Kitchen Magick" for this. A practitioner who does kitchen magick may consider themselves a "kitchen witch". Many common kitchen items, slices and other ingredients can have associations with them and can be implemented into magickal workings. For example: Eggs may be for protection, canola may be healing, milk may be nurturing. And so, used together can produce a strong influence. Also, such as to: flour may be prosperity, sugar may be attraction, baking powder may be action, and salt may be grounding. And so, using flour, sugar, baking powder and salt together can encourage finances to become secure and well, or to bring income/money to you. Often kitchen magick is taught by family passed down through generations of ancestors meant to bring positivity to the entire household. Kitchen magick combines beautifully with other realms, aspects and paths within witchcraft. For example: kitchen witchery dovetails with a green witch's practice. Green witchcraft involves the exclusive use of plants with includes shrubs, herbs, grains, fruits, vegtables -- anything grown in nature. Or, another example is combining kitchen witchery with the magickal traditions of cottage witchcraft. A cottage witch works exclusively with the well being, saftey and protection of the home and household members. Kitchen witchcraft couples perfectly with cottage witchcraft, as well as many other forms of pricing magick in the craft. Some commonly used kitchen witchery skills would also include: making concoctions; using food as medicine; enchanting ingredients when adding to a dish; making tinctures; treating recipes like spells; use of a wooden spoon as a wand; making potions; turning a cup of tea into a ritual; making your own cleaning solutions; and many more. Many kitchen witches place an alter beside the stove, or close by. Personally, I like to set my stove as sacred space, and my pan as my alter. This type of witchcraft centers around making your kitchen a sacred space making magick within the use of cooking, baking, or stewing foods. One can get disconnected from the craft of they lose the relationship or kinship to the ingredients that feels most special to them. The modern kitchen witch may feel off balance when home is not 'as it should be'. Livingin tune with what foods are in season during each time of the year can help restore sacred balance in life and home. One reason why coming is regarded as such a sacred art in kitchen witchery is that all that grows in life is essencially viewed as a ceremony. It is not required to dedicate a specific time and resources to ceremony. Kitchen witches work intuitively to find the magick in everyday life. A simple way to share infuse magick into your food is by being extra mindful of the ingredients and their uses in any dish. While working, concentrating mostly on positive and calming affirmations. Energy is transferable and you don't want to add negativity to the foods. When baking, try to draw Sigils on the bottom of crusts or make them from decoration. Anyway to implement magick further into a recipe is a form of kitchen witchcraft and can be done any way that a witch feels is suitable. Each practice can be very different from the next. It is really all about your own personal intentions. There is no wrong way to do witchcraft: Always follow your instincts; Alwaya trust your intuition; Always do what feels right to you. Another example of kitchen witchery is shown in this other blog entry about making a potion: https://www.askagreywitch.com/post/making-a-love-potion Thank you for watching the video, or reading my blog. Please feel free to submit your own questions for a possible upcoming blog topic at www.AskaGreyWitch.com and I'll do my best to help. Blessed be.
- Divination techniques
Submitted question covered in this blog/pictures: "Why are witches known for tarot readings?" Thank you for this interesting question. I believe that this is a bit of a stereotype when it comes to witches. Tarot is one of the most popular forms of divination now-a-days. Not just witches work with tarot cards. A previous blog entry speaks to the use of Runes and Tarot at: https://www.askagreywitch.com/post/runes-and-tarot As well as: https://www.askagreywitch.com/post/self-tarot-reading-suggestions which provides some self Tarot reading suggestions. A diviner is anyone who practices a form of divination. Divination can be described as seeking knowledge from the divine. Messages are usually interpreted through the use of an omen, oracle or other divination tool and is often referenced with the aid of a supernatural power. Witches are often known for their use of Tarot cards as well as many other types of divination that some witches (not all) explore as part of their ongoing practices. The use of the Tarot is probably just more prevalent given it's popularity in general. As some examples, I thought I would share some of the methods of divination in which i have explored over the years in my own path of witchcraft below: It should be mentioned that it is not expected that in order to be a witch that one would need to know one or all or any of the following divination techniques. In fact, there are many witches who do not undergo divination at all. To each is own in their own practices. Some of the different divination techniques that I am familiar with are: Automatic Writing - Clearing your mind, closing your eyes and allowing your hand to start writing random words or phrases and then interpreting the messages afterwards. Crystal Ball Scrying - Focusing on or scrying a crystal ball in order to draw inner feelings and visions from deep within yourself. - Crystals in the craft
Submitted question covered in this blog: "How can crystals be used in witchcraft?" Thank you for this question as there are many ways in which crystals can be used along with intention to manifest a desired outcome. Crystals carry energy and give off vibrations unique to each type of stone. These unique energy signatures influence us to synchronise our own vibration to the stone. For example, bring encouragement to heal. Or, feeling the grounding qualities of a crystal when holding it in your hands. Or, feeling empowered by the qualities of certain crystals, etc. Witches work with energetic influences through spell work. Therefore, certain crystals can be an allie within magickal workings related to the associated properties of the stone. Each crystal contains a microstructure arrangement of particals often referred to as a lattice design. It is this design that allows crystals to carry the electromagnetic energy flowing in and out of them tuning their vibrational frequencies. Witches are able to use these energies as associations of intention within their magick. Crystals can also aid in workings by enhancing intention of the practitioner. For example, the use of rose quartz in a love spell. Or, having Amethyst on the desk while being creative, or coming up with new ideas, etc. Or, using pyrite to symbolize wealth and prosperity, etc. and so on. There are also many examples of the properties of crystals being taken advantage of in modern technology. For example, Silicon microchips in computers, or quartz crystals used in radios to stabilize radiowave frequancies, and in watches for more accurate precision of time, etc. And, so many more! Certain crystals can enhance the properties of some other crystals which can be taken advantage of in spellwork, or by creating crystal grids or body layouts. Certain crystals can be used for healing, or dreamwork, or can assist with shadow work, or psychic abilities, or mediumship, etc. There are many ways in which one can work with stones and crystals to take advantage of their energetic resonance. A few examples are: Place around your home or worksplace to encourage a specific energetic influence Carrying with you, in your pocket or wear as jewelry to help yourself be influenced by the stones' properties Use as a symbolic reference to your intention within spell work Sit with a specifc crystal that you are drawn to, and analyze it's look, how it feels, what it says to you, etc. Scry the reflective serface of a crystal or crystal ball to encourage focus and revelation of inner messages from deep within. Meditate with a certain crystal to encourage a specific goal, such as healing, or working through past traumas, etc. Use to mark the cardinal directions within a magickal circle Some crystals can even be implemented into spellwork as a power source, literally powering a spell like a battery. Charge a crystal with your energetic intention. Some refer to this as 'crystal memory'. Or, however you feel you should express for yourself the energy felt and connections created from crystals. It is always my suggestion to not mix crystals with water as some types of crystals can break down in moisture, become damaged or even become toxic when wet. I always advise doing your research and getting to know each of the crystals that you are working with before attempting spellwork with them. Some of the different crystal types that I've worked with in my practice (not limited to) are: Amethyst Ametrine Aurora Aura Quartz Black Quartz (witches wand) Bloodstone Blue Calcite Carnelian Celestite Cetrine Clear Quartz Fluorite Jasper Labradorite Magnifier Quartz Moldavite Moon stone Obsidian Onyx Opal Petrified wood Prehnite Pyrite Rose Quartz Selenite Shaman stones Smokey Quartz Sun Stone Tiger's eye Thank you so much for reading my blog. It is in hopes that it inspires you as you continue down your own path of enlightenment, self growth and spiritual development. Questions are always welcome at AskaGreyWitch.com Blessings to all.
- Unexpected outcomes from spells
Submitted question covered in this blog: "... Why didn't my spell work? " This is a terrific question! Because, even when spells are successful the ways in which the results were reached can be very unexpected. Let alone, when spell results don't even seem to go as expected! Thank you to whom submitted this, as there are many reasons why spells can have effect sometimes leading to what seems to be an undesirable outcome. While performing the workings of aspell, it's important to focus on the desired outcome intented from doing the work right from the start. If within the caster of the spell there is any self doubt or disbelief in their own magick, then you are basically working against your own intentions. Trusting your instincts, and following your intuition - that level of confidence is key (in my opinion) to successful manifestation. The more satisfied you feel from the working, the even more likely. The more confident you feel the more likely your desire will come to fruition. That being said, feel free to manipulate or change any existing spells that are found online, in books, or share by other witches. What works for them may not necessarily work for you, and vice versa. We each have our own associations that can be implemented into any working so to connect with the intention as much as possible. Go by what you know, and do it your own way. Be sure that you resonate with the workings in a way that boosts your intentions. If you haven't done the shadow work first involving the process, subject or target of your spell, there can be internal interferences regarding your true intention within the workings. For example, one may later regret casting hexes or curses suddenly, impulsively, or without thinking though the possible consequences that could arise from such a spell. Or, to prepare for the possible ways in which the influence could reach the result. Get to know your inner self well enough to anticipate such interferences. Some example of shadow work exercises and prompts available at: https://www.askagreywitch.com/shadowwork However, the reasons a spell may go awry is not always because of the caster not doing it right, or not having confidence in their workings, etc. Learning about and knowing all of the factors involved in the situation can be critical to not allow external influences from interfering with your desire. There can be interference from external influences from others who feel negative about the topic or target of your spell. Or, if your working against another magickal practitioner's intentions. For example, if any protections have been setup around your target, or if another's negative influences are directed against your own influence. There could be other intentions that do not align with your own coming from other influencers involved. If other witches are working spells opposite to the workings of your own spells, the outcome can become undesirable, arratic, or even chaotic. Practitioners of magick are not the only ones who can interfere with the direction of outcomes from spells... it is my fundamental opinion that anyone can manifest, even Cowan's, the mundane, and does not even actually require witchcraft. Witchcraft is just one of the menu different ways that the spirituallity of humanity has learned to manifest. And so, common folk and general public work can play a part in the larger scheme of things. Then there are possible higher influences, depending on practices. For example: Perhaps a deity was offered to assist in an 'oppositioned' spell ritual that works against my simple candle spell. Or, perhaps a past ancestor or spirit (of yours as the caster or of their's as the target) simply said, "No". Many times often some do not realize the help and assistance that is available right around them from connections with spiritual energy. Each and every person has their intended life's path. Thanks to the power of free will, it is impossible for magickal spells to control another, or make decisions for others, or change the opinions of someone else. The ways in which magick becomes interactive is by energetic influence. It is always up to the mind of the target of any spell to choose to follow through with the influences around them. The strong minded or extremely stubborn are much harder to influence than someone who may be more vulnerable to persuasion. It is in hopes that this makes sense, and does not discourage anyone from attempting spellwork to be successful. On the contrary!!! In looking at the possible outcomes, determining the true intentions, and preparing beforehand, will empower your rituals and spellworkings in every realm of the craft. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you feel that I could clarify further, and of course, if there are other questions they can be submitted at AskaGreyWitch.com Take good care, Blessed be.
- Controlling free will
Submitted question covered in this blog: " Can a spell control someone else's free will?" This is a topic that has alot of hype and misconceptions that have lead to many witches showing concerns for in public forums and in social media for years. However, the truth is that the absolute only person who can control their free will ... is themselves ! The definition of Free Will is: " The notional capacity or ability to choose between different possible courses of action unimpeded. Free will is closely linked to the concepts of moral responsibility, praise, culpability, sin, and other judgements which apply only to actions that are freely chosen. " For this very question, many practitioners feel that they need to ask permission from their target first before casting a spells onto someone else no matter what intentions are involved. In theory by asking permission a caster is working to avoid potential negative Law-of-three outcomes: that what is sent out come back three times fold. This perception is often applied to certain types of workings more than others, like the concept of love spells. For example, is a spell intended to influence someone else to fall in love with you actually the formation of a genuine relationship? In my opinion, Yes - it is. Because, the target of the working would still need to go-with-the-flow of the 'new idea' that has been presented to them - no one is forced to blindly obey. Spells can have an impactful effect on others when it has caught the interest of the target and there is a willingness to follow through with the intention. Even hexes and curses must find ways of influential impact by exploiting possibilities of weakness or vulnerabilities in order to make any difference. More about curses and hexes is available in this orbits blog entry: https://www.askagreywitch.com/post/curses-and-hexes If intending to send blessings and well wishes to someone else, then from my perspective, permission to do so is not required . In the same way as I wouldn't ask permission before sending a get-well-soon card or some flowers, etc. to someone who was healing from an injury or illness. So, why would I then need permission to send influence for the promotion of fast healing with a spell? To my knowledge other religions, such as Catholic, or Christian, etc. do not ask permission before initiating in prayer for someone else. Free will is always our own and can never be controlled by another. Each of us ultimately has the choice to follow through with magickal influences of any spell. The more open to, or vulnerable to persuasion a target of a spell is the more likely they will be influenced by a spell caster's intented manifestation. The more confident and strong minded a target of a spell is the less probable of desired outcome - unless, the target agrees with the same intentions themselves. This is fundamentally how protections work. By raising confidence, our free will is empowered to be less vulnerable to any external influences. More about protections is available in this previous blog entry: https://www.askagreywitch.com/post/protections However, I do beleive that there ARE instances when a magickal caster should ask permission before involving someone else in individual spellwork. Such as, to do spells for someone else's intentions instead of your own. For example, doing someone else's spell for them instead of them doing their spell for themselves. One should never just go ahead and do spells on behalf of someone without understanding all of the conditions, details, and variances of the situation. As well as considered any possible ramifications or consequences that may be unforeseen, etc. Getting permission first and involving the target in the process of the workings also allows you to ask questions, gain related knowledge with the targets insight, and to be sure you have considered all aspects and have all of the information that you need to consider beforehand. Thank you to whom submitted this question. It is in hopes helpful. Please, always feel free to reach out if I can clarify or answer any other questions. Thank you as well for reading my blog! Blessed be.
- Secular Wicca
Submitted question covered in this blog: " Does Wicca have to involve a Goddess and/or God ?" This question is so very much appreciated, as it touches closely on my own personal practices in Wicca. For example, although following a Seax Wiccan structured tradition, I work with representations of different interior parts of myself, and not external supernatural supreme beings, or creators. This essentially makes me a secular practitioner. I, myself, am a sort of Humanist Wiccan. Wiccan Divinity Drawing There are many Wiccan practitioners that believe a non-theistic approach to Wicca is not a proper Wiccan way. Afterall, From the first Gardnerian version of Wicca, to most branches of Wicca that followed are mainly viewed as a religious practice usually involving a Goddess and/or God. More about Wiccae can be read in this previous blog entry: https://www.askagreywitch.com/post/wicca-in-more-detail Wicca in more detail. Find the right path that resonates with you. As a practitioner, who follows the Wiccan Rede, respects the Law of III, celebrates the wheel and was initiated into the practices and rituals of an Anglo Saxon tradition, I am a devotee to certain feminine and masculine aspects of human nature. The ways in which I work with the aspects of my inner self are similar to, if not the same as, how many practitioners explain how they work with deities, and their experiences of doing so. With the similarities between my own self 'pantheon' so-to-speak represented within the Anglo Saxon traditions of the New Moon Sacred Meadow Circle, i was/am accepted as a Gesith Seax Wiccan Initiate. There are always representations on my working alter of a feminine aspect and a masculin aspect (that I resonate with either from nature, or from within myself). I give offerings in attempt to connect with the specific aspects I desire to work with and I also show thanks to the aspects I feel I've connected with or enlightened. Synchronoustic messages come from within my deep subconscious psyche as symbols and references stand out to me. From my own perspective, this can be viewed as guidance in the same ways as it would from a deity, an angel, a guide, etc. ...from an aspect of my own human nature. Then, who is to say that I should not identify as a Wiccan? Here is the confusion: Although, my invocations are the same, and carried out accordingly, contradictory to many Wiccan beliefs, in my opinion, the deities do not exist as external all powerful supernatural beings. Most Wiccans pay honourage and tribute to deities. For me, Goddesses and Gods can be symbolic representations for different aspects of the different 'pieces to the puzzle' of my own inner self. Each specific deity acts as an archetype that can be focused to draw out from within the desired human qualities or abilities. It is a way for us to analyse, come to terms with, and utilize specific charectoristics that may already exist deep within our instincts and subconscious, or that we desire to improve upon. These qualities come from simply being human and it is my belief that one day science will eventually be able to explain further about intuition, emotion, and consciousness, leading to a much clearer understanding of energy work, divinity, manifestation, etc. In my personal view, the fundamental structure of Wicca is self empowerment. Thank you to whom submitted this question. Please note that the above is written from my own perspectives and is not meant to persuade, influence or represent others. Always trust what feels right to you in your own unique magickal practice. Many blessings.
- First experience of Shadow Self
Submitted question covered in this blog: " How did you start doing shadow work?" Due to the personal and sensitive nature of getting to know the parts of ourselves that we keep hidden from others (as shadow work is), it's important to start small and work your way up to more in-depth or intense inner self interactions. There is so much information on shadow work that can be found online, in books, or across social media in which there are so many ways in which many say that it can be accomplished. With all the different sources and impressions being shared, it can be difficult to discern what is the best way that will work for you. Thank you for submitting this question! Personally, my first lite-experience of shadow work growing up was amongst plants and trees when I was a young child and developing green witch. Sitting amongst the different plants and trees, being drawn to certain flowers and learning how the different types of plants and herbs effected me - what they meant to me, how they resonated with me - also taught me about myself and my own inner workings. The ways in which i would think that would lead to my associations with each plant also lead me to know myself better, be more confident and to trust myself more, and my intuition. Quite literally I was projecting aspects of myself onto the plants in which i was learning about, and how I could relate to them and their properties, and magickal value, etc. The better I knew the flowers and herbs around me the better I got to know myself on a very deep and personal level. When I was about ten or so years old, I started analysing my shadow self by staring at myself within the reflection of what I could see in windows and in mirrors, or in the reflection of water. It was this that I unintentionally learned to do from my grade five teacher who made me read the book, "Anne of Green Gables" written by L. M. Montgomery. Too make the book more interesting to read for myself as a preteen boy, I applied my own perspective of magick to the plot of the story. Within the first few chapters the orphaned young girl of the story creates an imaginary friend she would talk to in the glass of the window panes near her bed that would keep her company when lonely. I saw this as magickal and began analysing myself for subtle responses and queues while taking to reflections of myself for a moment to ask a quick question, or reconfirm my process of thinking at the time, etc. Along the way and as I got older learning more about myself even more intently. It wasn't until I was a teenager that I began written shadow work exercises in a journal style book of shadows. Many shadow work written exercise examples are available at: https://www.askagreywitch.com/shadowwork Occasionally, i do revisit these old ways of reconnecting with myself while I'm going for a walk in a forest and finding a quiet peaceful place to sit, perhaps near a stream and just ponder myself and my thoughts sitting at the base of a tree. Observing the surroundings and noticing which plants in the foliage that I am drawn, the sounds that catch my attention, what animals retain my focus, etc. all can help to recognize the internal processes of my own mind. Why am I drawn to such plants? Which symbolisms from the sight or sound of animals stand out to me? What properties of the plant may help or serve me? There may be associations or memories connected with or tied to such plants, scents, colours, textures, sounds, etc. Understanding this can define the under workings of your shadow self. Quite simply, something that seems as common as gardening can be made into an experience of enlightenment and development on an inner shadow level. The underlying processed during can help to sort out intellectually heavy thoughts in a similar way to meditation. More in depth about shadow work is available in and connected to this previous blog post: https://www.askagreywitch.com/post/shadow-work-in-my-opinion It is in hopes that the above shared is informative and clear. If I can clarify anything here or if I can try to expand further on this topic, please do not hesitate to let me know. Thank you for visiting AskaGreyWitch.com and for reading my blog.
