Sacred Meadow Circle Virtual Gathering Discussion Summary:

Thank you to those who were able to attend the Sacred Meadow Circle Virtual Gathering with the suggested topic of discussion about Religious Practices.

The group explored various spiritual and religious practices, including discussions about many traditions, personal experiences with spirits, and the genetic aspects of witchcraft. They examined the similarities between different religious practices and rituals, with particular focus on deity worship and the evolution of traditions from ancient pagan practices into modern religious customs.

The conversation focused on discussions about personal experiences with deities.  Bryan and participants discussed the similarities between different religious and spiritual practices, particularly focusing on deity work and rituals. Bryan explained how various traditions, including witchcraft and Christianity, share common practices like making consecrated water and using repetitive rituals and the same techniques used to track those ritual components. A participant shared his personal practice of using beads to track the chanting mantras for his deities, including Greek and Hindu gods and goddesses. They also discussed the concept of awakening one's divine self and the importance of building respectful relationships with deities.

The conversation concluded with a discussion about treating oneself with care as a form of devotion and spiritual practice involving personified representations of the aspects of our own human nature.  The group discussed various approaches to spiritual practice and offerings. Another participant shared her experience of connecting with the deity Lilith through a personal dedication and ritual practice. Eclectic approaches to spirituality were explored, including offering energy and love to deities rather than physical items. The conversation touched on different ways of making offerings, including libations or consuming food on behalf of deities, and the symbolic nature of religious rituals. one commented on the commercialization of religious practices and the exclusion of certain traditions.

This led to discussing how ancient pagan traditions were incorporated into Christianity, noting examples like Saint Bridget being a pagan deity and Santa Claus originating from the deity Odin. It was further explained as an example of how Easter traditions evolved from pagan practices, with children hiding eggs as a way to wish spring greetings during a time when it was illegal to practice paganism.

The conversation explored how ancient gods and goddesses have influenced modern symbols and practices, including the medical symbol, national animals, and colour associations.

We discussed how perspectives on gender and power have shifted over time, with some pagan traditions reversing traditional gender roles corresponding to common and popular deities of modern times.
